Riley appears to have some kind of stomach bug. I never thought I’d say this, but I actually wish I were talking about the sort of stomach bug that results in post-traumatic-stress-causing diaper contents. Unfortunately, I’m talking about the kind of bug that sends curdled milk-barf all over sheets and pajamas and my “vintage” Target-purchased Aerosmith shirt.
He’s napping right now, thank Christ, but I fear my day’s fate is sealed: clean up puke, clean up kid, run bath, do massive load of repulsive laundry. Repeat. Oh, and send Dog outside after hysterically admonishing her for trying to EAT BARF off the highchair.
God.
In news that is marginally less disgusting, I have been semi-diligently updating SundryBuzz, so if you’re not already reading (my heart! my achy breaky heart!), here are some recent reviews:
• The Nikon D70S
• TIGI Control Freak serum (LOVE)
• Some kind of appley dessert thing
• Also, an embarrassing correction
Okay, will you help me quit moping about my housebound State of Barfdom? What’s the last really great thing you bought for yourself? Could be anything: food, clothes, music, whatever. Thanks in advance, I am dying for some distractions today.

Okay. I tried to find a link, but it is either no longer made, or I’m an idiot. But – I bought a fanny pack! What?
It’s a North Face fanny pack for runners that goes actually on your FANNY, meaning you wear it behind you, and it has this awesome water bottle that is slanted that you can pull out easily while you’re running. It also has a TINY pouch for drivers license (so they can identify my body when I get run over, mom) and cell phone. It’s AWESOME.
But what am I about to buy? A macbook. Shhh…
Just think – what if you had to do all the laundry at the laundromat? You’ve got it easy, girl!
A Home is Where the Cat Is mug. I love it beyond reason.
The best thing I bought myself this year was Sirius Satellite Radio. It has changed my life – long drives are no longer hideous, the commute to and from work is more fun, and the set I brought transfers from the car to the house. Commercial free music, Howard Stern, and lots of bad words. I highly recommend it.
I just bought this awesome velvet blazer from Kohls. Go here: here Can’t wait for holiday parties!!
a nosehair trimmer that looks like a finger…brilliant gift for my brother in law
ew. sorry to hear about the barforama going on at your place. just when you think things can’t get anymore gross than a projectile-vomiting kid…the dog comes in and proves you wrong. hehehe, isn’t family life GREAT?!?!?
last REALLY GREAT thing? pfft. my car? which i will be making payments on until next summer. or, maybe the shitload of AVON stuff that just came in today. unfortunately, all the colors that looked so delish in the catalog look like ka-ka on my face. but i am a true addict, so i’ll probably order more shit next week too. OH OH OH! i haven’t bought it YET, but on friday i get my spanky new computer!!!! woot! ok, it’s not a fancypants laptop or anything, but it burns cds, has uber memory, about a billion usb ports, and it’ll be MINE all MINE, never to be used to download Wifey porn, or be subjected to 20/24 hours a day of WoW!!! *sigh* i’m a happy girl :)
i bought a dustbuster. it is my lover. between that and my scumbuster, black and decker OWNS MY SOUL.
Bath and Body works Body Butter ..raspberry vanilla…yum. I also want that perfectly awesome kitty mug Miz Robyn!
A caique parrot. Named Sundance. God help me. AL
I am suffering with the same stomach bug. I feel horrible. Hope Riley feels better soon.
I bought two pairs of shoes and a pair of slippers from Target.com yesterday. (It’s very weird that you brought this up, because I just wrote an entry about buying shoes for myself. ) If you want to see what they look like, I posted them on my site. I cannot wait until I get them. I think I will try to incorporate them both into my outfit on that day…perhaps wear the boots from the house to the office, then the flats while at the office? Hmm, I’ll think about it.
Oh, and because I am too selfish to read the comments before posting my own, I want to add that I, too, have Sirius Satellite Radio and it’s the best thing in the whole world. I read that it changed chillier’s life, and, I kinda agree.
Also, Samantha Jo, that blazer? IS ADORABLE! I love it. If I didn’t have enormo-jugs that don’t allow me to purchase any sort of tightish shirt/jacket with front closure, I would buy one for myself!
Less than one hour ago, I bought myself two sweater vests at Eddie Bauer. On sale, and super cute! This is, of course, after I informed my shopping partner that I was, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, to buy anything.
Oops.
Uh, let’s see what I’ve spent my hard-earned dosh on this year…. two new bathrooms? Nice, but not sexy. A new mini-van? Functional, but now I’ve lost all my cred with my old friends w/o kids. Medicine for my dog? Necessary, but oy. Groceries? Weekly. Not at at all sexy. I think the last thing that I bought that I loved was…. (god, I’m pathetic)… books. There you have it. I also love my new MacBook, but since I work for The Man now, I use The Man’s computer which is just not as fun. Oh, and also my new Danskos that actually fit. Love them.
i bought a snickers bar, and it was delicious. just what i needed :)
I just bought some “squishy” (read: comfortable) clothes from LL Bean for Thanksgiving…you gotta be comfy while stuffing your face and watching football :)
Man I was happy when the kids were old enough to puke in a bowl, bag, toilet (best case), trash can, anywhere but the couch, the bed, the carpet, the car, etc. I had to laugh about the dog. Usually when the kids would blow chunks on the carpet the dog would appear out of nowhere to feast. That’s were I would think “bad dog” quit eating puke, but then again that’s that much less I have to cleanup, “good dog”.
Last thing I bought, an icon package and a UML documentation tool for some software I am writing.
Bummer…Get ready to do a ton of laundry. That fabric softener should help a lot :)
Hope he gets to feeling better soon!
I bought myself a tube of Long Last Soft Shine lipstick from Clinique yesterday. Berry Freeze is the color’s name as I went to get myself a tube of bright pink lipstick and I no longer had any. All I had were the muted light pinkish stuff. I want bright lips dammit!
Poor Riley, hope he’s better soon. Barf. ICK!!!
I love you Angela, and I’m coming to visit your website after I post this just to share the love on the Black & Decker Scum Buster. That is the last thing I have purchased. A new one. I wore my old one out because it is the best thing ever. And I am dirty. Well, I’m not dirty, my family is dirty. And my floors. One swipe around the bathtub or shower and schwooop! All the dirt is gone. And I have a two-year old who likes to paint. It makes cleaning so much easier. Not just on bath stuff, but on other things, too. The tile floor under the dog’s bowls? Do you get that um, layer of ick under the water bowl? Gone! Just like that! And the new ones? They come on a stick thingie so you don’t even have to bend or reach as much. So very cool. These and the swiffer wet-jet thingies are the only reasons that my house is clean. Now if only I had a Roomba!
I bought the Foo Fighters Skin and Bones via iTunes–a live acoustic album recorded over the summer. It contains many songs from In Your Honor, and also some great older songs like Everlong. LOVE it. It’s just what mom needs to blast in the minivan, thus proving to herself that she IS still somewhat cool, despite the fact that she is: a) driving a minivan b) for the after-kindergarten carpool c) in her Old Navy/Target wardrobe.
It’s the small things that remind us we are still in here, underneath all the “mom.”
Oh man, hope Vomit Fest 2006 comes to an end very soon – that sounds horrible for both of you! And what is with animals? They are so nasty! My one cat is always trying to eat the other cat’s puke/hairballs. He is gross! But I love them both.
Anyway! Thirding the Sirius Satellite Radio! LOVE! But that was in January. Tthe last thing I bought myself that I really loved was a study abroad trip to Australia. It was amazing beyond words. And on that trip, I bought some lovely aboriginal art. And now I will not be able to spend any money for … a few years. heh!
Sorry, I got all excited over the Scum Buster, I really meant to say my sympathies over the puke. Hope Riley is feeling better soon. When those bugs hit Bella, I let her spend LOTS of time in the bathtub playing. She loves it, Mommy can sit back and drink or read and it cuts up on the cleaning.
Hmmm…that’s a tough one as we’ve been “saving money” and therefore not really buying anything. I guess it could be the “Cheesy Gordita Crunch Wrap” that I tried for the first time yesterday. It was pretty tasty, and I would definitely eat it again the next time I am looking to spend half the day looking green because OMG the amount of cheese in that thing is (incredibly, wonderfully) obscene. Which does not mix well with someone (like moi) who is slightly lactose intollerant.
I am up to my ears in crap too, though not the pukey variety, and the highlight of my day was two steak and cabbage tacos from a hole in the wall Mexican place. If you can get out and get some Mexican food, it will brighten your day. Just don’t let Riley have any, because GOD, no one wants salsa two ways.
I’m sorry you’re having a shitter day. xo
On the hunt for the deep purple nail polish I craved, I finally found and purchased the closest thing to my vision: MAC’s Dark Angel. It’s awesome. Also, while there, I got suckered into getting my face “done” professionallyby one of the MAC artists and as a consequence splurged on an eyeshadow kit (6 colors for smokey eyes (?), two sparkly grays and then browns including a “green” that’s actually brown when applied) — great, great colors that actually LAST. Ordinarily I would never spend the $$ on fancy make-up, but this is, in fact, worth it — as just mentioned, the color is stays on and is deep and rich; also, the shades of brown are unlike anything I’ve encountered in drugstore brands. I just might be hooked.
Carrie: i love you too and i am gald i am not alone in my undying love for my scumbuster. my friends think i am a freakshow.
Jessie: you’ve made my decision for me, i am going to taco bell for lunch. which, in a roundabout way, ties in with today’s pukey theme, but i don’t care.
Filakia: do you like MAC nail polish? Wet n Wild discontinued my color (blackest red) and they closest i can come to finding a replacement is at the MAC counter or the Chanel counter. And it’s pretty hard for me to justify paying more that $2 on nail polish.
Man, I haven’t bought myself anything fun in a while (I’m not very shoppy and also exceedingly practical about money/clothes, etc). I am reaching here. Probably, as lame-o as it sounds, the new iPod Nano, which I had to buy because my iPod mini died — just up and DIED — and then, on top of that, I will add that I purchased a super-great playlist recommended to me by another blogger that quite literally got me through the New York City marathon this past weekend. Good music cannot be undervalued.
And thanks to your SundryBuzz post (I’ve been reading! And I love!), I am rather dying for a Nikon.
One question, though (which maybe I should put over there, but since you mentioned it and I am here now and also super-lazy): have you taken black & white photos with the D70S in its black and white “mode” (assuming it has one), and do they come out as good as film B&Ws — or do you find that you can make as-good-as-film B&Ws via Photoshop or some other means?
Well, we’re kind of not spending money since we just bought a second house as an “investment” and are expecting a baby… it’s a leeettle tight right now. However, a while ago, we bought a King-Sized bed and it’s heavenly. The key to happy marriage is a King-Sized bed, sister! Especially with a bed-hog husband (ooh, do I sound bitter?!) and two seventy pound pups who feel it is their god-given right to sleep on the bed with us. :o)
I bought a Mt. Dew, which is no big deal until you consider the fact that I have given it up and I only bought one to combat the coma-inducing weariness I am experiencing after being up with my fiance since 2:00 am this morning until he finally let me take him to Urgent Care, where we found out his rib cartilage somehow mysteriously tore itself away from his ribs.
Oo! Oo! I bought these awesome knit muck-luck thingies, like big warm knit socks, except with a thin leathery sole at the bottom. I guess they have less-awesome ones at Payless or whatever, but I got mine at the local hippie bong store, and they rock my heezy for sheezy.
I bought a fresh loaf of bread today from the bakery. One of my greatest pleasures this year (now that I get to live below the poverty line – thanks grad school!) is eating fresh baked bread. It’s soooo good! And so cheap!
Oh no, I’m sorry Riley is so sick. Not fun for anybody. And why do dogs do that? ewww!
My husband and I just booked a trip to the Caribbean. We’re going just after the new year and it’s our Christmas gift to each other. Otherwise, I really haven’t bought anything for myself.
Oh well, I did buy Bliss High Thighs Slimmer Scrub: http://shop2.blissworld.com/shop/cart/4.
It’s supposed to “slim” your thighs by increasing the circulation…aka exfoliating the shit out of your thighs to make them appear to be smooth. I know it doesn’t work but sometimes it’s fun to lie to yourself and I like the spa-like smell it gives your bathroom after you use it. Good for a quick Calgon take-me-away moment. :)
A Nikon D50 (the lil sis to your D70S) and a wedding dress. Now I just need to start the “wedding diet” which I have been studiously avoiding.
Do yourself a favor and stop giving him the milk. The milk vomit is so very nasty and I’m sorry you are experiencing it.
I recently lost my mind and bought a great dress, some gauchos and a black top at Ann Taylor Loft.
URban decay lip lube…Nyc is the best colour…yummy shiny and glossy what could be better?
Two recent purchases, and I don’t know which I love most! Thing the first, Tweezerman tweezers. Oooo, so sharp and so awesome. Plus they were mismarked for $7.50 instead of the annoying $20 they normally are. HA! Thing the second, cashmere lined leather gloves, legitimately on sale. They are now known as “the gloves of luxury”. All my knit gloves are crying in the drawer as they will never see the light of day again.
Poor mama and Riley. I hope the worst is over for you all.
The two things I have recently purchased that I LOVE and get a little joy from every time I use them were both items for my 1 year old, E.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000GK15TO/sz-category464-20/ref=nosim
Robeez booties. LOVE THEM! When I don’t feel like wrestling to put socks on? Eh, no big deal! I just slip these on (sooo easy to put on) and off we go. We live where it’s COLD, too!
The second thing we couldn’t live without is a Snack Trap.
http://www.snacktrap.com/Detail.bok?no=24
I make it even more convienient by adding rings to it so I can attach it to a stroller or backpack (ba pa!) so even if my little turkey drops it, it’s still attached. The “lid” is soft rubber and allows for little hands to reach in for snacks, but the snacks won’t fall out- even in my purse! AWESOME. I buy these for birthday gifts and I think I have a few new best friends.
I bought a Tamrac camera-bag/day-pack combination (the… shoot, something 7) and I LOVE it. It carries just enough of my camera stuff for a walk or a hike, and it has a compartment above big enough to hold a sweatshirt, my wallet, sunglasses, and keys, and a couple of library books. It wouldn’t carry a Riley, though.
My sympathies with you on the puke problem. The unfortunate thing is that puke only gets nastier as they get older. On the plus side, though, sometimes they’ll make it to the toilet with it.
The last really great thing I bought for myself is a closed-toe, round-toe, black patent leather platform pump. It’s by “diba” and it’s called “Mardi.” It’s insanely cute, sexy, stylish, yet sweet and NOT trampy looking, very comfortable, and makes me like, five inches taller. I tower over the men I work with — heee! It’s a super, super high shoe that, thanks to the platform & round toe, doesn’t kill my feet AND it doesn’t make me look like a hooker. Can be worn with (overlong) pants, skirts, suits. zappos.com
Heh. This will probably win for the dorkiest self-prezzie, but! I bought myself a bunch of luscious pure silk yarn and knit myself a shawl out of it: http://stashknitrepeat.com/fos/2006/Leaf%20Lace%20Shawl.html Not that I wear gorgeous silk shawls, with a 14-month-old. But it’s sitting in my drawer, smelling all fabulous and silky, waiting for that mythical future day when I can think about a flirty summer dress again.
Sorry to hear about Riley’s stomach bug. :( We’re dealing with the glories of canine teeth today, I think. I feel your pain.
$75 worth of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume. Which actually gets me a whole lot…it’s just now I have to wait about a month for it to be made and shipped here. :-)
Oh my god, I’m so sorry. The only–ONLY–good thing to say about a barfing child, is that when he stops barfing your usual life will look so blissful. The twins got some sort of barfing thing and I thought I might actually go insane.
Oh, and what I bought for myself was a Burger King Spicy Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich, with extra spicy sauce. Oh jesus those things are good.
The last really great thing I bought for me is a CD/MP3 portal player and small set of speakers. I have been trying to get by with a waek ass radio that only picks up elevator music so I burnt a CD of my favorite MP3’s and got this thing and I am in music heaven now. I have thousands of MP3’s on my external drive at home and can not hook it up here at work so this is the next best thing (no this is the BEST thing). The speakers amplify also so when no one is around I can really jam. I have rechargeable batteries so it’s all good. I will be burning more CD’s soon. I just love it.
I hope Riley feels better ASAP!!! Hang in there, I know it is rough!
I haven’t been able to buy much for myself lately, being 7 months pregnant, don’t want to waste too much $$ on maternity clothes – they are pathetic I have to say. I did buy a really cool basket from Restoration Hardware that hasn’t arrived yet: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1026031&navAction=jump Figured it would be cute for toys.
Last week, with my husband’s blessing (he was practically pushing the “purchase” button for me), I bought a ticket to visit my best friend in San Diego in January — one last “just us” weekend before Baby arrives in March. (Now we just keep hoping and crossing our fingers that nothing about this pregnancy changes and I’m actually able to fly at week 33…) We may do nothing at all — I
m pretty sure wine tasting and Disneyland are out this year — but it will be four days of doing nothing at all in a place slightly warmer and drier (hopefully) than my beloved Pacific Northwest.
Hello-
Found your blog through another that I read. Awesome job!!! I am completely addicted to this one, your mom blog, and sundrybuzz. I look forward to reading them everyday. I have a 10 month old son, so I know where you are coming from. Your little boy is absolutely precious.
Latest thing I bought for myself.. actually new Erasers. I love nothing more than a clean eraser when it comes to my art. :3
I may be treating myself to some major starbucks with friends soon too. It’s cruel, It’s mean, but we’re horribly sick of our dear ‘friend’ (used to be now we can’t stand her) having pregnancies scares and not seeking help/alternative birthcontrol/a brain. For the record – We’re sophemore college students. She comes from a strong religious catholic background and has no tact and often insults us with the things we say. God why did I room with her?! Becuase I didn’t think she’d become this.. ANYWAYS. We all have starbucks bets on if she becomes pregnant before the end of the school year. :3 I’m looking forward to a chai-latte and perhaps some common sense for her.
I am so going to hell.
inflatable oversized boxing gloves, two pairs, for my kid and my nephew, christmas presents. technically not for me but, come on, you know i’m not going to be able to resist the urge to slap those babies on and whap my brother one after christmas dinner. or something.
it seems kind of ironic that we spend all year trying not to let them beat each other up and then we buy them christmas presents that encourage it.
The best thing I bought this year is the Chi hair iron. It cost me $145 and it is the best hair iron ever. My hair is the most uncooperative in existence and is almost always wavy unless I go to the salon to have it properly blowdried and straightened. With this iron, all I have to do is let my hair dry naturally, into its usual frizz nightmare, run the iron through it and it lays flat like paper and gets silky soft and shiny. It doesn’t burn my hair at all. I LOVE it!!! It is used in most pro salons.
Your dog only eats barf? Could be worse. Mine ate a steaming pile of his own crap the other day. No more doggie kisses for moi.
The best thing I’ve bought recently? Ulta Chocolate Swirl body lotion. I seriously want to eat a big mouthful of this stuff every time I put it on!
I bought myself a pair of big, shiny silver hoop ear rings. They looked sexy and daring to me in the store (kohls, as I was shopping for size 2T clothes [btw, AWESOME store for baby clothes. They always have the buy-one-get-one deal]). But then I got home and they were a little much for my otherwise frumpy self. I put them on and my husband got all excited (ahem…). I haven’t worn them out in public because, well, I never actually get dressed up. Never. Ever. I really wish I had a reason to… Anyway, at $4.99, I’ve chalked them up to a cheap thrill.
Sorry about the puke. I totally sympathize because my son is a vomit faucet. He’s not sick, that’s just how he is. We feed him and he vomits about half of it up. Doesn’t seem to bother him, but MAN it’s gross. Baby spit up is one thing, but kid vomit. Ewwww.
NON MATERNITY CLOTHES. Seriously. What is better than that? 2 sizes bigger? SO didn’t care. Yay!
I would have to say these
http://www.amazon.com/Jules-Destrooper-Chocolate-3-52-Ounce-Boxes/dp/B000FBQ67K
I’ve hidden them in the back of the cabinet, so they’re are all mine. MINE.
I’ve fallen in love with a band called Muse. I’d been hearing these really interesting songs (3 of em) on the local radio station (WRNR) and always seemed to miss who the band was. Finally, I heard the band name for one of the songs…MUSE! Excellent. None of these songs I like sound like they are by the same band. Come home, go to Itunes and start listening….oh wait. It’s that other song I like TOO. Oh and that other song…..Wow. 3 songs on the same cd. Don’t wanna wait for husband to get home to put it on his Ipod. I head out on a mission. Must have Muse-Black holes and revelations. Got it and love it all. Teenspawn says “oh yeah Muse is good….can I borrow this to put on my Ipod ? One hour later she hands me another cd she burned….their earlier cd called Absolution. Listen…another WOW. But sadly, it does not work in my crappy mini van cd player…
so THAT is what I bought today. Muse-Absolution. WooT
As for Riley. He sounds exactly like my son (now 8) was. Until recently my son has been known as the TROLL. He has finally gotten over the “yes the world does revolve around me” attitude. I hope it happens sooner for Riley and you. All I can say is when he gets outta control just plop him in his crib and walk away. It works….sometimes.
Limited Edition Mint flavored chocolate M ‘n Ms at Target–just in for the holidays. Can’t. stop. eating. them. Must. hide. from. myself.
Ugh, so sorry about Riley. Hang in there. As someone else mentioned, the only good thing about the barfs is that for a little while after he stops, dealing with your child will seem so easy compared to how it was when he was barfing.
Three awesome things I bought for myself recently: a book (World War Z), the Bare Escentuals make-up starter kit recommended on sundrybuzz, and a Toyota Prius. Love all. Only had to browbeat husband to agree to one of the three (ok, so it was the car, but still….).
*Just* bought myself a professional massage. Saturday morning, baby. Ohhhh yeeeaaahh. I’m in the middle of a 10 day detox diet (http://www.therawfoodsite.com/mastercleanse.htm) and I need to 1) speed these toxins out of my aching muscles, 2) have something really nice to distract me from the lack of cookies, grilled cheese, coffee, lasagna, gin-n-tonics, etc. in my life.
Sorry about Riley’s bug. Been there and it’s no fun.
I bought a pair of my favorite jeans (excellent used condition) on eBay. I paid about 20% of what I have paid for them new. I love a good deal.
so sorry to hear about your trip to Vomitville. hope the little tyke is feeling better and thus by extention you. :)
recently bought the Mindy Smith cd (the older one, not the newest) and Ray Lamontagne’s newest cd. love them both! also just got some rain boots from Target (online only i think). 20 bucks! :) red/blue/pink/brown stripes. makes the recent Seattle rainstorms a little easier to handle.
Oh hot poop on a stick. I’m sorry Riley is yakkin. That’s no good for anyone.
Let’s see…what have I bought that’s really great lately? I thought I bought a really great sweater from Eddie Bauer (gray, v-neck, slouchy) but when I tried it on, my husband said “it’s nice…in a grandma way.” So, that’s being sent back.
Um… I bought some awesome socks from Marshall’s that are thick-stripes of dark grey, dark brown, teal and orange. Sound ugly? They rock. They’re knee-high and luscious. I bought a couple of pairs for friends to toss in with their Christmas gifts.
I also bought new batteries for a personal appliance of the vibrating nature, and that is really really really great.
I have that sweater (grey, Eddie Bauer, v-neck)! Gah, am frumpy grandma and did not know it.
I love reading all these comments, and now I want a Scum Buster REAL BAD.
I actually cannot remember the last thing I bought myself because my husband and I are on the “Not Buying It” program for one year. We only buy necessities like food and clothes for Lochlan. Absolutely nothing else. Anti-consumerism at its best. ;)
OP: BPAL? You bought Black Phoenix stuff? Oh holy God, remind me to tell you of the insanity of that place, and one of their managers. IN.SAN.ITY. She’s nuts.
And yah, you’ll be waiting until fucking kingdom come for that Snake Oil you ordered. But oh, some of their stuff is so good! Jack! I loved Jack!
The last really great thing I bought myself was the Nikon D70 digital camera that we own. I LOVE that thing. It’s great for pictures of the babe, as you well know.
And we’re battling a viral infection on top of an ear infection – and the really great part is that the medicine they prescribed gives our kiddo bright orange tummy problems. As in every single one is a blow out. Every one! It’s not so fun when you’re five hours away from home for your mother in law’s funeral with a sick child whose medicine makes him even sicker!
The last thing I bought for myself? An eyebrow wax. And sweet mama, why do I always wait so long to do this? Nothing makes you feel a little more human again (as human as possible while also constantly carrying a five month old baby and/or some sort of contraption to clean up her vomit and/or mittens and her hat just in case she might get cold and, of course, always having some sort of smushed up gunk on your panks even though you JUST WASHED them last night). But yay for eye brow waxes.
The last really great thing I got for myself was… a kitten. Ok the kitten was free, but we had to get him some litter and food and stuff. So I think it counts. Because my kitten makes me giggle, and that is excellent.
I had to hang around the grocery store for 15 minutes after I got my flu shot at the grocery store’s pharmacy. While wandering, I picked up tonic and a lime for gin and tonics. The tonic was also used for a yummy gin/tonic/orange juice, or GTO. Mmmmmmm good.
Aww… I hope Riley feels better soon! Poor baby… and poor mommy having to do a lot of foul laundry.
The best thing I’ve bought for myself lately was my new camera. I wanted something compact and pretty, while at the same time could take awesome pictures and not have to worry too much about it being uber-fragile. I got a Canon Elph SD600. I love it!
My child is a projectile barfing champion. I am a projectile barf CATCHING champion, as a result. I’ll give a tiny bit of assvice…..cover the furniture with towels and/or old sheets while the barfage is prevalent.
Last thing I bought myself…..BOOTS. Bad ass, knee high, slightly granny looking, laced all the way up the front boots. From the new Kohl’s down the street. I love these boots. And I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m now looking for a pair of skinny jeans that don’t give me sausage ass so that I can easily tuck them into the boots.
A giant bowl of hot chocolate today, double fudge. The bowl was so big that I felt humiliated until I tasted it and realised there were approximately 2539872357 teaspoons of chocolatey foam on top.
The Kiddopatumus & Co Tiny Diner Portable Placemat. Now I never take my baby to a restaurant without it.
You just slap it down on the restaurant table, eliminating the need for freaky germaphobe wipe down, and it has this crumb catcher tray that really helps cut down on the giant pile of toddler food on the restaurant floor.
I also ordered a Baby Bjorn soft bib, but haven’t gotten it yet!
Sorry about pukeville. I am gagging just thinking about it! I love Sundry Buzz…I need to comment more there, but I read every entry! Thanks!
A pair of black heeled Hobbs shoes which make me feel like having sex again.
Well it was less of a purchase…more of a gift to myself. I had the last Baby Jai purse in Cafe creme from my boutique… bit naughty that.
A dark brown Nine West purse and a red wallet to match the lining. It makes me ridiculously happy to sling it over my arm.
The best thing I have recently purchased for myself? That would definitely be downloading a-ha’s “Take On Me” from itunes. I love that song! Even if I was a twee five year old when it originally came out.
Sonia – I think I have those same boots! I have yet to work up the nerve to wear them though. I am thinking it will take copious amounts of vodka.
I have a habit of buying myself jewelry since someone else in my house *cough cough* doesn’t seem to ever thing of it. My last piece was a bracelet with alternating blue aquamarines and opals. Its beautiful and not so expensive that I cringe to wear it out. :)
Best thing I purchased for myself was a DVR. I am a reality show freak and now I never have to miss another one!
A sweater from Target. Last weekend. Also, I totally have the ‘vintage’ Aerosmith Target t-shirt.
Oh, honey, it could be worse — he could have it coming from both ends.
I’ve been sitting here for ten minutes trying to think of something I’ve purchased for myself, and I can’t come up with anything. But I want to post a comment because I’ve never done it before! I have a 10 month old so that explains it, right?
So my mission today will be to buy something. For myself. A stick of gum! A tampon! A Louis Vuitton bag! Yesterday I bought “Urban Babies Wear Black” by Michelle Sinclair Colman for The Baby. It’s quite kicky, and the illustrations are very cool.
I am de-lurking and venturing into the wonderful world of comments! Yikes!
The last major I thing I bought for myself was a birthday present (using money from my husband and my parents)…some beautiful brown leather boots by Nine West. Got a fantastic deal on them at Belk…they are tall (but with no heel, which is fabulous), and soft, pointy, and they have a cuff! LOVE.
I also ‘bought’ the free samples (paid for the shipping, so it sort of counts) from Everday Minerals, and I have fallen in love with those, too. We’re on a verrrry tight budget, so while Bare Escentuals was extremely attractive, I decided to go for the cheaper version, and I am a huge fan. My next purchase is going to be some foundation and concealer from them.
Hope Riley is better soon!! Puking is no fun. :(
My Bioelements Sleeware night time moisturizer. I get to spank it before i put it on (to release some kind of retinol that is “encapsulated” and can only be released after a good beating…extra naughty before bed time!) and it makes my skin look SO SMOOTH! Trying to get rid of the pregnancy skin is like…trying to get rid of the pregnancy weight! HA!!! DOUBLE HA!!!
The last great thing I bought myself? Sadly, that would have to be a box of Ice Cream Snickers.
I hope Riley feels better soon!!
i just have to say i’m jealous of all the hot Scum Busting action going on !! i have been asking/begging for someone to get me one for my birthday/anniversary/christmas. i think they think i’m joking. i like in a MAN ZOO. i NEED a scumbuster!
*fingers crossed for xmas*
hey…just had a thought…i wonder if you could somehow attach a Mr. Clean magic eraser to the Scumbuster??
sorry about the pukeys. all better yet?
Ew…sorry Riley is ill and I hope that passes–er, quits soon. Also, is it bad that when you said you screamed at Dog to stop eating the puke, I was all, “now why on earth would she want to do that?” (Bear in mind I am not a parent.)
On a grand scale, the last truly awesome thing I bought myself was 4.5 months in Paris. :) On a lesser scale, it’s kind of a tie between the 5 euro scarf I bought in the Metro and have been stylin’ the heck out of since fall came to Paris (40-45 degrees during the day), and the 3 euro soothing (chamomile) candle I got at Muji a week ago that smells inSANE and comes in an adorable little aluminum container with a lid.

Other than two very comfortable (!) NOT nursing bras to fit my mysteriously smaller-than-before-but-still-big self, my most favorite recent gift to myself was a Panasonic Lumix FX07 camera. It takes great pictures. It’s red! Best of all, it’s tiny and fits easily in the diaper bag and doesn’t way 100 tons, so I actually have it with me when I want to take pictures. (Unlike the two very good digital SLRs we already own that were always sitting at home because of their big heavy bulkiness.)
I always get into your comments either really early, or really late. :)
The last great thing I bought myself was the Polaroid i639M pink digital camera. I dropped our old digicam and couldn’t afford your Nikon (heh) so I picked up this amazingly magenta camera. For $150, it has a lot of options. I’m impressed. Battery life sucks, though.
I also picked up some coconut body butter at Bath & Body Works that is FAB, and some “Hot Cocoa” scented lotion- OH MY GOD. I want to eat myself. I walk around going “Is that chocolate? I smell like chocolate!”
And tomorrow I’m buying a new wedding band, which just ROCKS. Hurrah for shiny jewelry.
I have had so many issues with my post-pregnancy body that I finally decided the best way to deal was simply to buy something sexy to put on it- because lets face it, jeans, sweater, and sneakers are comfortable and practical for baby-wrangling but sexy? Not so much. I went on a shopping spree, and it felt great. Soft grey sweater dress from Sandro, wool flannel suit from Sonia Rykiel, 4 inch Miu Miu heels, Coco Mademoiselle perfume, expensive hair products from Leonor Greyl. Head to toe, baby. And you know what- call me superficial, but I feel sexier when I am wearing new sexy clothes and I didn’t have to loose a pound or visit the gym. And next? An hour and half facial, for no reason other than I think it would feel nice. Frankly, my husband would complain about what I am spending except I think he got to the point where he was willing to pay to shut me up with all the whining “I’m so faaaaahhhht!”
I’m so completely saving money here so buying things hasn’t been very frequent unfortunately! My bf did purchase for me last weekend a killer new face d&g handbag though. It’s so pretty. (Yes, I know it’s bad when you think handbags are a big deal. Don’t look at me like that. ;p)
A few weekends ago, I bought some Issac Mizrahi pumps at target. They kinda have that “crocodile” leather look and look like high fashion mary-jane pumps (with the witchy pointed toe thing)! I’m a teacher and on my feet all day and they are actually VERY COMFY! I totally recommend them! :)
Sorry about the barf. If it makes you feel any better, the high school I work at has a MARVELOUS janitorial staff that must have missed the big pile of vomit (yes, vomit) I stepped in about 3 weeks ago in the courtyard. Gross.
Have a great weekend!
i just bought myself regina spektor’s new cd, “begin to hope” and it is absolutely amazing. quirky, beautiful, silly, and mysterious all at once. highly reccommended!
The last thing I bought for myself that I absolutely love was my anti-depressants. Man, I’m loving being on them, and people look at me funny when I say that. But it is so so so good to feel good again.
The last great thing I bought was a Grande 2 Pump Non-Fat No Whip Pepperming Mocha from Starbucks.
oops meant peppermint not pepperming
Bath and Body Works 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/bubble bath. YUM! I bought Cinnamon Bun Heaven and Spicy Gingerbread.
