You guys, thank you so so so much for all your wonderful comments over the last few days. I’ve been wanting to update but we’ve been stuck in the hospital forever — seriously, they would not let us go until late this afternoon, despite everyone’s robust and gaseous good health, we started thinking we were going to have to jailbreak our way out a window or something — and now of course we have some major not-sleeping to do, as well as overcompensating with Riley for this horrifying new arrangement (”Hey Riley, let’s go buy you a MOTORCYCLE! Unless you’d rather have your very own HOOKER?”).

More actual blog content to come soon. Until then, some squishy newborn photos:

I want one like him! The name is awesome, besides which that last picture made my heart all mushy and stupid. Glad you finally escaped hospital hell.

  13. Kirsten on February 6th, 2008 9:39 pm

Oh he’s precious!!! I’m taking as much baby boy dust off you as I can for the next 9 weeks :) Congratulations to all of you, what a great family you are!

Oh my lord, perfect! Not making this up–one of the best-looking newborns I’ve ever seen.

    And bonus–he looks like you!

  15. Kathryn on February 6th, 2008 9:40 pm

I’m looking again, and I just have to add, how on earth have you guys managed to keep from biting into that perfectly ripe little peach of a face?

  16. Stacey on February 6th, 2008 9:47 pm

Congratulations!!! He’s gorgeous. I hope Riley does well with the adjustment. You all make a beautiful family!

  17. andrea on February 6th, 2008 9:52 pm

Happy Homecoming! He is absolutely adorable. I forget how smushy they are those first few moths, and the baby feet, they just put me over the edge.

Wishing you at least 2 hours of sleep tonight….

  18. Rayne on February 6th, 2008 9:53 pm

He is beautiful – looks just like you! Enjoy this time, it is so unforgetable.

  19. Mary O on February 6th, 2008 9:54 pm

Oh, I think Dylan looks like his mama!
Did you have to “fart for food” after your c-section? That was the rule my doctor had, and it sucked! I was so hungry the day after the surgery and still hadn’t passed gas yet, so I ended up sending my husband out to lie to the nurses for me so I could eat! It was totally worth it. =)
    TMI, I know!

  20. sooboo on February 6th, 2008 9:55 pm

Wow! Congratulations! He’s incredible. You are one lucky mutha!

  21. Lisa V on February 6th, 2008 9:57 pm

    Linda, he is glorious.

My babies always brought their older siblings a present. Usually a book. Perhaps if I had bought a pony or maybe a convertible, I wouldn’t have this sibling rivalry bullshit from my teenagers now.

    Congratulations to all of you.

  22. Jessica on February 6th, 2008 9:58 pm

He’s beautiful! I think he looks just like you, Linda. Congratulations!

Now I want another one! (Well, I already wanted another one. Working on it.)

  23. Yams on February 6th, 2008 9:59 pm

Look at him … just look at him!! You all make a wonderful family. Congrats again.

Oh my gosh. He’s so darn cute. Congrats again!

  25. Chris on February 6th, 2008 10:02 pm

He is perfect and you look amazing. I’ve only been reading since you got knocked up with young Dylan, I can’t wait to watch this new chapter unfold. Enjoy this new boy and know that the bigger boy is going to love him up real good. All my best wishes to your family. Hearts and flowers

  30. aoife on February 6th, 2008 10:09 pm

  31. Donna on February 6th, 2008 10:15 pm

He’s a nanosecond old — how can he be so ALERT?

Riley, Riley. . . what does he think??

  32. Lauren on February 6th, 2008 10:19 pm

He’s quite adorable – nice work! He looks so much like you! I can’t believe how good you look in those pictures. You recover well from major surgery. Must’ve wanted Dylan to be here, huh? Congrats!

P.S. I had no idea you had freckles. I am a total freckle-face, too. Or as they like to call them here in Singapore, “brown spots.” OK, enough about me.

  35. BethanyWD on February 6th, 2008 10:25 pm

You lucky girl – getting out of the hospital so quickly! With my c-section, we were suck for 3 nights, then the last day it seemed like FOREVER until they would let us go. It was even baby no. 2, we were old hats.

Congratulations – he is SOOOO FREAKIN’ adorable. Almost makes me want to have a 3rd – almost!

  61. Jem on February 6th, 2008 11:31 pm

(Except for the poo, the crying and the no-sleeping. The cracked, sore nipples, jealous siblings, postpartum recovery and the hormone roller coaster.)

Here’s to a smooth transition with a baby who sleeps, doesn’t cry much, easy transition for toddlers, breastfeeding miracles and quick recovery.

  97. Lora on February 7th, 2008 6:20 am

Awwwww…. I am sure people will understand if you take a breather and just enjoy being home and work on tagteam sleeping and diaper changes. I hope things go really easy for all of you.. and your recovery is speedy. Beautiful family.. I want two, but my son is 10 months and getting his molars and you know how that goes… after they come in, maybe in that 5 minute window before the next nightmare, we can TTC. xo to infinity!

Oh, Linda, wow! I adore that last photo of Smalltopus. He looks perfect. I teared up at the photos, even with my heart of cold, black stone. I didn’t get a chance to comment the other day when you were asking for them, but please know that your writing touches me (and obviously many others!) so deeply that we’ve come to care about you and your family like you were our own. You are very inspiring and brave to share so much of your world with us. So…thanks! (Wow, that’s inadequate.)Enjoy your little peanut. Boys are awesome!

  127. Tara on February 7th, 2008 7:52 am

AWWWWWWWW!!!! SO cute. Can’t wait to hear how Riley adjusts–if I could ever convince my husband to have a second child, that would be my big concern.

  175. kim on February 7th, 2008 12:10 pm

I can’t understand how I can be so emotionally invested in a family that I have never even met, but I sobbed tears of joy today for you and your beautiful family. Your sons are so handsome, and you look amazing even though you just had your guts cut out and put back in. Congratulations Linda, good luck with that whole sleeping thing.

  176. Bianca on February 7th, 2008 12:11 pm

The first thing I thought when I saw that 3rd picture is that he has your eyes! Then I scrolled down further and realize he has your nose! He looks so much like his mama! So cute!

  177. Nancy on February 7th, 2008 12:30 pm

Darn it, you made me all misty with Dylan’s gorgeous photos. The last two, in particular, made me wistful for those newborn days 6.5 months ago. He’s just beautiful!

Congratulations! JB looks just a little bit proud. I can’t wait to see pics of Riley and Dylan together.

  178. ang on February 7th, 2008 12:35 pm

He’s so beautiful! And that little hat is too cute…is that standard issue for your hospital? Much cuter than the generic blue and pink striped hat we got.

  186. Rachel on February 7th, 2008 1:43 pm

I’ve never seen a newborn who didn’t look like a wrinkly old man until these pictures of your newest.

    Well done!

*swoon!* Dylan, be my valentine. (Just don’t tell my boyfriend!) Yay smalltopus. Riley, don’t let them make you choose between a motorcycle or a hooker. Take both!

  191. kalisah on February 7th, 2008 4:12 pm

oh he’s just so yummy! Such great photos, too! I feel like I can smell his little baby smell just looking at them! XOXO Baby Dylan!!

Oh, he looks JUST like you!

    What a sweetie head!

  195. josh on February 7th, 2008 4:46 pm

Dang. You know I hate it when people say this, so go ahead and punch me in my e-throat if you want, but he does look like you. I don’t think I’ve ever actually looked at any newborn pictures. Or at least I never paid any attention. My mother has told me numerous times that I looked like a prune when I popped out, but I guess I never fully appreciated how purple and wrinkly newborns are. I mean, I guess they’ve been holding their breath under water for nine months, so that sort of explains it, but still, wow.

I think in that picture with the two of you he may actually be practicing Riley’s patented suspicious face. And tell JB I’m again astounded by his natural manliness because it appears he wore a lumberjack shirt to his sons birth. Awesome. Get your strength back quick so you can get started on that new business extracting and bottling baby head smell. (not extracting the head, just the smell. I could already hear people getting pissed about that one, and I wanted to clear up any confusion)

  196. Jen on February 7th, 2008 5:18 pm

Oh GOSH! Newborns are NOT supposed to be that cute!

    CONGRATS!

The words “OH MY GOD!” interspersed with happy sighs keep repeating as I gaze in wonder at these photos of open-eyed, cute as a button – and OH MY GOD!, look at the shapely sweet little nose Dylan. I WANT HIM. Gosh, Linda, keep the photos coming will ya? And bless your heart for taking the time out from what must be a very exhausting and hectic time to update your virtual friends. Love to you both and your little ones. Extra hugs for Riley (who might be a smidgen jealous). Oh and DOG, too :)

  202. Lesley on February 7th, 2008 6:08 pm
