Last Thursday I saw the Pixies on their Doolittle tour and it was absolutely amazing.

I don’t know what I enjoyed more, the fact that judging by the thinning hairlines and mom-purses in the audience I was surely not the only person who had last seen them in concert twenty years ago, or the group singalong to “Hey” which featured a hundreds-strong voice singing as one:

WHORES in my head
WHORES in my door
WHORES in my bed

JB took Riley to Coos Bay for the weekend while he was down there elk hunting, and I thought it was going to be really hard being on my own with Dylan. And you know what, it was fantastic. I don’t know if it was the one on one attention, or if he’s just finally (and probably temporarily) free of the viruses that have been plaguing our house this fall, but we had a great time together. I’m grateful for a happy weekend of really appreciating what an amazing little guy he is.

Oh! And on Friday I saw a coyote in front of my house. That was cool.

I think that answers your question about poor dear Cat!
(when coyotes get that close… there’s usually no question).

And: so jealous about the Pixies!!

  2. Maria on November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm

I was so jealous when you tweeted about the Pixies concent.

And that little dance just a chock full o’ awesomeness. Such a cutie!

  3. sundry on November 16th, 2009 1:48 pm

Jenn: yeah, we’ve long suspected that, but no way to know for sure. I still prefer to think she’s on a permanent Cat vacation.

  4. Rachel on November 16th, 2009 1:55 pm

To infinity and be nommed. Love it.

  5. Maggie on November 16th, 2009 1:59 pm

I will concur on the jealousy about the Pixies. I definitely would have been there with my mom purse in full effect.

I had some alone time with my little one this weekend too and she was a total angel one-on-one, when my older daughter returned it was like the beast came out in her, then older daughter left and angel returned. Makes me think there may be something to this sibling rivalry.

  6. Donna on November 16th, 2009 2:05 pm

    Awww. Poor cat.
Dylan is growing like a little weed!
And I have no idea who the pixies are?
Did JB get an elk? Cuz they are yummy.

  7. Milton on November 16th, 2009 2:24 pm

Donna, you don’t know who the Pixies are? I just fainted. Someone revive me with smelling salts?

LOVE the Pixies. HATE that Arkansas doesn’t get to have them on this tour.

  8. sheilah on November 16th, 2009 2:32 pm

Good lord, woman, where do you live? You can’t live in Seattle proper…must live in them thar wilds on the east side.

(right…you have written about driving on the bridge…)

(not a stalker, just a displaced Seattle native pining for the NW…)

  9. Michelle on November 16th, 2009 2:38 pm

Oh my, mom purses. A few years ago, my DH and I went to see Bob Dylan. I scanned the audience and turned to my husband, “Everyone’s so old here…” He reminded me, “So are we.” Sigh.

I’m so glad you had a great weekend! I heard from my brother in law (who saw them in Eugene on Saturday) that the Pixies’ concert was “one of the best he’d ever seen.” Here’s wishing you & your family continued good health and happiness.

  11. Janet on November 16th, 2009 3:01 pm

I always split up our two little ones whenever I really need to stay sane. They don’t foment hellacious rebellion alone nearly as well as they do when they can conspire.

  12. Janet on November 16th, 2009 3:02 pm

P.S. Someone was offering to take me to the Stones concert when they were down here, but we heard the band was taking up all the handicapped spaces, so we skipped it.

  13. M on November 16th, 2009 3:05 pm

I’m also green with envy…I didn’t even know the Pixies were still touring. Good lord. I have to make a better effort to stay informed, and maybe get myself to a show!

  14. Aljolynn on November 16th, 2009 3:11 pm

I am soooo freaking jealous! I love the Pixies! I love Kim!! and the way she sings Gigantic.

  15. HollyLynne on November 16th, 2009 3:30 pm

I saw the Pixies a few times on their last reunion tour . . . so rad live. Glad you had fun!

  16. Eric's Mommy on November 16th, 2009 3:34 pm

I am so jealous that you went to the Pixies concert, I love them.

Glad you had a good weekend with little D :)

  17. Amy M. on November 16th, 2009 3:37 pm

    Adorable!

I have the Pixies “Rockabye Baby” cd. It’s weird to hear “Wave of Mutilation” as a lullaby for babies…

  18. Diana on November 16th, 2009 4:10 pm

I am glad to hear you had such a great weekend! Thank you for sharing.

  19. Joanne on November 16th, 2009 4:14 pm

It’s amazing how good the almost two year old can be when you take them one on one, right? I try to at least take mine to the store or something on the weekend, just us two, because she is so pleasant when we are alone. I’m glad you had a good weekend, it seems like you deserved one!

  20. Kami Lewis Levin on November 16th, 2009 4:15 pm

So, the Pixies is hands down my fave band of all time and yet, I didn’t even attempt to get tickets to this tour. Because I knew I’d probably fall asleep during it because my lovely boys (ages 1 and 3) force me out of bed at 6am and nothing trumps sleep these days…congrats on the alone time with Dylan. It’s amazing how much pressure having the rest of the fam around can put on individual relationships.

  21. Smileen on November 16th, 2009 5:21 pm

Ah, Pixies. Love the fight club, where is my mind song, and Edward Norton for that matter.

Dylan is dripping of cute Fondue. Adorable.

  22. M on November 16th, 2009 6:36 pm

Ok, I’m not on Twitter and have never commented on your site before, but have been reading both your blog and Twitter for a few months now–you never fail to crack me up. I just have to tell you that you MADE MY DAY (maybe my year) with your Tweet about Eric Carle books. “Brown Bear” has been my 11 month old’s favorite for about 5 months now, and I HATE IT. Your tip has given me, and that stupid book, a new lease on life. Thank you.

  23. monkey on November 16th, 2009 7:16 pm

I saw them in 2004 in Chicago with Urge Overkill as the opening band(who made one of my favourite albums of all time). Other than the fact that the acoustics were horrible, it was one of the most awesome shows I’ve ever been to-made more perfect by the fact that it’s the last time I really remember me and my law school friends going out in Chicago for an escapade and then driving back down to our school. I’m pretty certain I haven’t been to as good a show since then.

  24. Lesley on November 16th, 2009 7:57 pm

I have no idea what Dylan said but I think it might have been mostly “horse”. I thought I detected “boat”.

  25. Missy on November 16th, 2009 8:01 pm

You lucky lucky duck. I really hope they come to Cincy soon.

  26. Allison on November 17th, 2009 5:51 am

And then the coyote ate the baby. The end.

  27. Shelly on November 17th, 2009 6:37 am

My three year old is a delight on his own, too. My hubby always offers to leave the 7 year old to “help” me with him and I’m like, “No, thanks.” He’s a total sweetheart and plays by himself and just is a general, all-around angel by himself.

  28. me on November 17th, 2009 7:42 am

so, so cute. reminds me of my own little guy.

  29. Okay Already on November 17th, 2009 10:03 am

“Lets go kill some birds, I am psyched …”
    Jeremy, Wedding Crashers

I wish the elk had guns too. At least then it would be an even playing field. Jeez…and it’s 2009. Evolution, where are you?

  30. Gleemonex on November 17th, 2009 10:55 am

Oh, Linda — I hear ya. Pixies 2 nights for me. Would’ve gone to the third show — added later — but the babysitting dollars alone were breaking our collective balls. GodDAMN do I love that band. I am dangerously close to getting the flying “P” tattooed on my ankle — I’ve been threatening to for years, but now I just might have to do it for real.

  31. Gleemonex on November 17th, 2009 10:57 am

I mean, talk about pushing your limitations — I took up the bass at age 31, never having played a stringed instrument before and with only two junior-high years of flute (UGH) as a musical background at all — because of Kim Deal. I’m in it up to my neck now, people. Heh.

  32. Jinxi on November 17th, 2009 12:18 pm

    The Pixies = Lifelong Love!

I met Kim Deal at this seedy little club in 1989 after The Pixies played and she was so sweet. Like Gleemonex, she was THE reason I picked up a bass as well. She will always be my favorite.
It’s so rad that you got to see them.

And YAY for your fun time with Dylan. Those happy times make the tough times seem so much better, huh?

    Thanks for sharing.

  33. willikat on November 17th, 2009 8:12 pm

So jeal that the Pixies came to Seattle and not here. They are without a doubt, one of my favorite, favorite bands. I can listen to them when I’m crabby, when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m tired, when I’m freaking out.
And nothing makes me feel better than screaming along to “Tame” on a bad day.

  34. tina on November 19th, 2009 7:56 am

Ohhh I have so many memories of the Pixies! I remember getting ready to go out with my girlfriends in high school and blaring “here comes your man” while screaming it and dancing wildly. Such a great band. Not only am I jealous you saw the pixies…I am jealous you went to a concert! I can’t seem to keep up with any of that any more. I saw Jane’s Addiction several years ago…another fav, and I felt so silly being there, but it was great.
Your little one is so ridiculously cute. When my two year old dances he looks like one of the kids from Charlie Brown. LOL He is aslo found of saying “to infininy and beyom!” and says that Woody says “Howdy parmer!”

  35. Nicole on November 20th, 2009 2:34 pm

Your coyote looks like a Timber Wolf compared to our pathetic coyotes!

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/20706004@N08/3841778634/in/set-72157621973965681/

Is it just me or is everything better in the Pacific NW?

  36. Shelley on November 21st, 2009 10:41 pm

Poor second children. I have one of those, and I really feel she gets a bad rap. And of course only 1/8th of the attention. One of these days they’ll be all the better for it. For sure.
