Look, I crafted an honest-to-god homeade cake for the boy’s birthday! No shit, I used a Martha Stewart recipe and everything.

83106_candle.jpg

It’s heart shaped, people. That right there is carrot cake with cream cheese icing, so it is both cute AND nutritious. Vegetables! Protein! Dairy! My god, it’s practically a delicious novelty-shaped vitamin.

83106_looking.jpg
Look, Riley! It’s your first birthday cake, which your mother lovingly baked all by herself! Using actual ingredients! Can you feel the magic?

…you seem awfully suspicious, dude.

Well, maybe if your dad holds you, THEN you’re sure to get excited about this cake and maybe even try it out, right?

83106_looking2.jpg
Or…not. Okay, you’re clearly a little unsure about the cake. That’s cool, that’s cool, I understand. You’re only a year old, I guess it takes time to, like, embrace the concept of cake (thatIbakedwithmyownhands). How about we try it from the highchair?

83106_cake.jpg
Well now you’re just mushing it around, and — hey! STOP SMEARING IT ON THE WALL GODDAMMIT. Dog? Oh, Dooooog?

[NOT PICTURED: the dismayed Face of Gag after tasting one. solitary. molecule.]

All right, forget the cake. How about a present?

83106_happy.jpg

Now that’s more like it.

:::

A very happy birthday overall, and thank you for all your great comments, which I am totally going to print for his baby book. That would be the never-touched baby book I really should fill out one of these days, except I am weirdly intimidated by having to hand-write stuff because ahhhh, there’s no Undo (note to self: find a pencil) and also I may have already forgotten the answer to every stupid question in there (“You followed an object with your eyes on ____ date” – um, yeah, I have absolutely no idea).

Anyway, we are driving down to Oregon today to visit JB’s family for the long weekend, and I am bringing about a million of those flipping cupcakes because by god someone’s going to enjoy them and praise my effort, OR ELSE.

Talk to you next week! Now excuse me, I have to go eat leftover cream cheese icing with a spoon.

Yeah, the first birthday tradition of cake smeared baby enjoying the spoils of their mom’s best effores seem to be some kind of myth. All the one year olds I know gagged on their birthday cake and spent the rest of the time finger painting with the remains. Riley is in good company. It wasn’t until their 2nd and sometimes 3rd birthdays that they actually enjoyed the sugary baked confection.

You must CEASE AND DESIST with the cute. My left ovary just burst, I swear. I’m about to smear that nutritious cake all over the boy’s chin so I can gobble him up. Oh, dear lord. I just threatened to eat a baby I do not even know. DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO ME????

Good job on the cupcakes. I knew you could do it. So what if he gagged, the cake is really for the parents, so ENJOY! The pics are too cute! He is so adorable. Write in the baby book, it isn’t so bad, just make some stuff up for the dates, he will never know the difference!

I know – isn’t it a shame when there’s leftover cream cheese icing. . . . that will go bad. . . if it isn’t eaten with a spoon. . . right away. . .

Oh ! Happy Birthday, little man !
I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now and I really like it.
My son had the same suspicious face for his 1st birthday vegetable cake. I was so disappointed !:-) But this year, for his second, I went for the full naughty experience: chocolate cake with layers of strawberry and a (I do not know how it is called in English…) “glaçage”. He ate it all and even asked for more. :-)
Would you give us the recipe of your carrot cake ? I would like to try it at home !

Oh, he is just so beautiful. Seriously, the cutenes must stop soon or I will have to have one of my own and since we already have two by other means (girls, ages 7 [adopted] and 14 [foster]) now is really not the time.

Also, Riley looks like such a BIG BOY riding on that thing…adorable.

I’m late with the birthday greetings – i went on holiday on Riley’s birthday, that’s just how selfish i am! So Happy Birthday Riley, and Linda? I couldn’t read all the comments left on the last entry because of ALL THE TEARS…now, your films and photos always blow me away but Lord girl, warn us next time, yeah?! And Riley? You be good to your momma….

Yay, Happy Birthday Riley! I love his suspicious-face. You are obviously raising a well-rounded, liberal (except when it comes to flavors of cake), and cynical baby!

Kinda funny, but we had the same kind of birthday cake for Ian for his birthday, but we also had a white cake with cream cheese frosting because 25 adults and eight kids showed up for Ian’s first. Ian sat in his high chair and shoved the cake away, screaming as if I was murdering him. I dipped my finger in the icing so he could at least try that but it ended up under his eye with more screaming. We left the crumbs for dinner and Ian snuck some crumbs into his mouth while eating mouthfuls of carots. The next day, his daddy was getting him up from a nap with a cupcake in his hand and I heard, “Mmmm! Mmmmm!” which is Ian’s way of saying, “I want that! I want to eat that!” He likes it now. I thought of you as we celebrated Ian’s birthday on August 30. I’m glad it was a happy birthday. Sorry I didn’t coment before, but I was laughing and crying at your video and figured it was better to move on.

see if Riley was a girl, he would have wanted the cake more than the present. At least that’s how I see it.

On his 1st birthday my son was stunned and horrified by the singing (we had invited a few people over, as much to celebrate that we had successfully kept a human being alive for a whole year) and not at all interested in the cake. Fortunately I had bought it from a bakery. This year for his 2nd birthday I made the cake and he loved it! He also loved the singing, and wants to watch the video of him blowing out the birthday candles every single day.

Hey Guys!
Did you know that…

Subwoofers use drivers (woofers) (typically between 8″ and 18″ in diameter),
but some have been as large as 60″. Some drivers as small as 4″ may be referred
to as subwoofers but drivers less than 8″ generally have neither the cone area nor
excursion ability necessary to produce deep bass, especially in practical sized enclosures.
The most common subwoofer sizes in professional concert audio are 10″, 12″, 15″ and 18″.

Top 5 biggest financial frauds in the world

March 17, 2008 – 6:17pm | author: sergiu23 | Articles | Fraud

We all heard about thefts everyday. No one likes them. But these are big ones, that managed to steal incredible sums and gained a hero status among the common , poor people.

Big frauds history

The first big fraud was made in India, in 1992, by a great success broker with over 10 years of experience. Having a broker company at the beginning of the ’90’s , Harshad Mehta obtained funds from the bank market, which he operated at Bombay Stock Exchange. In 1992 the Indian stock exchange collapsed, the total lost being around 1.3 billion dollars, all being made by Mehta. “The Big Bull”, as he was called ended in jail , where he died 10 years later.

Beside the 72 penal accusations, there were another 600 civil processes opened against him, many of them not being solved until his dead.

The manipulation of prices with the role of dominating a market was signaled in Japan in 1996. In this case, Yasuo Hamanaka, chief of copper trading department on Japan market, made in 10 years operations that lead to lost of 2.6 billion dollars. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

But there are frauds which cause major loses, but no profit for the one that makes it. One trader from Allied Irish Bank, the biggest Irish bank, managed to lose about 750 million dollars with foreign exchange market. Beside the damage he made to the corporate in USA where he was employed, trader John Rusnak made 850,000 dollars from salary bonuses between 1997 and 2001. Rusnak covered his loses with fake reports to the bank, for which he was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Another famous case for the big sum involved, but which doesn’t implicate fraud is the one of the american John Meriwether, financial director of investment bank Salomon Brothers. Long Term Capital Management, created by him, raised in 2 years to 1.3 billion dollars, but failed because the financial crises in Russia , in 1998. But he went further and now he is ruling his own investment fund, JWM Partners, created in 1999 with 250 million dollars, sum that raised until now to 2.6 billion dollars.

Top 5 biggest frauds

1. Jerome Kerviel – Parisian trader of Societe Generale created damages of 7.1 billion dollars with term operations on european stock indicators.
2. Brian Hunter – Lost of 6.4 billion dollars from operations with derived instruments with natural gases lead to the extinction of Amaranth Advisory investment fund.
3. Giancarlo Paretti – The italian business man buyed using credits from banks Hollywood studios, merging into fraudulent operations that caused 5 billion dollars lost.
4. John Meriwether – Derived placements with active supports made by the financial director of Salomon Brothers caused lost of 4.6 billion dollars.
5. Yashuo Hamanaka – Copper trader of Sumitomo Corporation caused 2.6 billion lost with wrong term transactions placement.
