Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your lovely comments! I have approximately eight million entries that I want to write, now that I’ve spilled the beans, but I’ve got to pack—we’re leaving for Oregon tomorrow, where we’re staying at JB’s family cabin throughout the week of July 4. This is one of those trips where I have to pack practically everything I own to cover the various weather possibilities, plus all the toddler accouterments, and don’t forget the Pregnancy Car Travel Snacks (first item: COOKIES), and the giant box of illegally obtained fireworks, and all I can say is once everything is Tetrised into the truck there is absolutely no room for a second child, so I don’t have a clue what we’re going to do next year. Maybe one kid can ride in the dog box.
I have a few entries scheduled to post over here, so come by and visit if you get a chance. Have a fantastic week, and I’ll talk to you when I get back!
Have a good holiday.
I’m sure you have a roof rack, right? Strap one up there…
Have fun! I wish you hadn’t mentioned cookies though. Mm, cookies.
The second child is when you ditch the BAMT for a BAMSUV.
Have a fun 4th. Try the Caribou Coffe Icecream bars. You will not be disappointed. =)
We ought to take bets on when you’ll cave and get a minivan.
Don’t forget to bring Salt-n-Vinegar chips. That salty goodness + sweetness of cookies = Heaven.
Will miss your awesome blogging!!! Travel safe!
We live in Oregon and go to Canada to visit family all the time. In fact, we probably frequently pass you on holiday weekends on I-5 going the opposite direction.
Now that we have two we pack much lighter. There is just no room for all the stuff we used to take. Even things that are really kind of needed get left behind. We don’t pack in suitcases anymore, we use lots of smallish squishable duffles.
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again… just wait until Riley and his little sibling start to play together! It is so sweet when they hand stuff back and forth in their carseats and laugh and giggle in the backseat.
Someone commented yesterday that soon Riley will have someone to stare back at him suspiciously and that cracks me up so much. Can’t wait to see pictures of that.
Man, I thought I had it good with the 4th-6th off work. Have fun :D
OMG, you evil bitch– teasing us by telling us you’re pregnant, and then going off to Oregon!!
I kid. ;) Don’t forget to take Riley to the Enchanted Forest in Salem!
Have fun and I hope there are no tantrums (from Riley *or* JB over the holoiday!)… off to check out your other entries :)
Have a wonderful trip! We’ll miss you!
I know what you mean about packing everything, when we went to Florida for a little over 2 weeks I packed every item of clothing I owned just in case, it was pretty sad, I only wore a few of the same things too.
We expect lots of pictures of course!
You used Tetris as a verb (quite fittingly, I might add). That’s why I keep coming back to your blog. Have a great week!
Have a great trip!
What’s a dog box?
We had to get a very large SUV to fit baby, dog & other assorted family members. Also because our dog chewed through the seatbelts in the backseat of the sedan. Now if I could only learn to park the damn thing!
Have a good trip! Enjoy the fireworks!
Fear not about where to put the Sec-topus. One day (breathe) at a time, yah?
My hub’s college entrance essay was on Tetris – a sort of allegory on the challenge of fitting all that life throws at you into neat and balanced layers. Certainly applicable to parenthood, packing, etc.
I was also going to comment on “Tetrised”. Love that. It made me think of this video I saw on YouTube the other day of human Tetris. Check it out, it’s totally suitable for work:

I’m with Mrs. Breedorf–countdown to minivan commences! Have a fun and safe trip to lovely Oregon! And congrats!
enjoy your vacay. looking forward to reading all about it when you get back.
I’ll leave my congratulations over here as eleventy kajillion people already did it on the other posting. :o) Congrats!!
We thought we had enough room in our Tacoma (bah-ha-ha!!) before we had our little one. Even with a Yakima LoadWarrior roof rack and a canopy we couldn’t fit all our stuff and our two dogs. Our solution was to buy an 8′ trailer to haul behind our truck. It’s chock full o’ baby stuff, camping necessities, and my husband’s motorcycle. It seems to be an OK solution for now.
Have a great Fourth!
Nooooooooo, don’t goooooooooooooooooooooo! I want to hear pregnancy talk, pregnancy tallllllllllllllllllllk! Hurry back and then write all eight million entries.
Have a great time!
And I’m also laughing over “tetrised.” Will have to use that one!
An entire week w/o updates?!?! Aghast! What will I do…
After the super-good news, I started checking about a bazillion…
…okay…feeling like scary e-stalker gal. Um, am not crazy. I swear.
Have a safe trip! Looking forward to the photos! :)
Congrats! I’m due in a week, so I’m completely jealous of your still-able-to-wear-cute-pants-and-feel-human stage.
Enjoy your trip.
So glad to know you guys will be in my state so I will be sure to wave if I see you at like, I don’t know, Baskin and Robbins or Coldstone or somewhere! Have a great trip!
So I just now right this moment realized you are the same person as Purple is a Fruit. I’m a genius. Yay another fellow preggo.
Tetrised – I love it. So true about packing in general. I play Tetris EVERY NIGHT before I go to bed – on my Game Boy. Yes, I am 38 years old but SO WHAT? My son, Wyatt, thinks the Game Boy is a cell phone and holds it up to his ear (backwards) and says “ay?” That’s “hello,” for all of you non-parents out there. I was totally thinking of you the other day when we had some new friends over and OMG they talked about their kids constantly. The kids were like two trained seals, barking out their cute little phrases for all to adore (we didn’t have any fish bits to throw to them, darn it). The parents weren’t necessarilly competitive or anything so it wasn’t AWFUL but still – I felt so bad for the other couple who didn’t have any kids and had to listen to this guy talk about fermenting shit in a Diaper Genie. Parenthood makes you really weird and dorky, man. Maybe I was thinking of some entry from your other blog but in any event it should make you happy (or maybe a bit uncomfortable?) to know that some stranger who plays Tetris every night was thinking of you on Saturday afternoon and how you would have definitely written about that experience… Hope you’re having fun and not feeling too gross. Cookies!
congrats on the pregnancy!! :) i have been following your site for a long time and i really enjoy reading (as do your other million entourage members :) ) my sister is preggers with her 1st baby and i can’t wait to be an aunt!
Do you have any tips on good pregnancy items to purchase for a 1st time mother? Someone told me those baby band thingys for expanding bellies. Any preferred magazine subscription? Thanks ! and can’t wait to hear more!
Cherish the Cabin!
