• Vacuuming the horrific piles of detritus from my car
• Experiencing fits of dread over our 7+ hour trip to Oregon next week
• Making holiday decorations with Riley:
• Wondering if I’m going to be permanently addicted to Red Bull or if this is, like, a temporary substance abuse problem
• Watching JB hang lights on the house (I know, it’s way early and we haven’t even done this the last few years, but he bought some LED bulbs he’s all geeked over)
• Creating a place to display kids’ artwork:
• Slowly flipping back and forth through a book of cookie recipes wondering if I should go ahead and make some or just cram the lustfully captured color photographs in my mouth
What about you?
I worked out in the yard all day for the second weekend in a row. I am whipped, taking a shower, going out to eat, and going to bed.
Yay, me!
OK. Totally not sure why my comment had no words in it. There were some when I hit submit!
Ok. Shorter answer since baby in high chair is now flinging macaroni…
* Did Laundry, washed floors, dinner and baths for kids, cleaned up cat vomit (so fun)…
* Went to grocery store for champange for anniversary and had mild panic attack that I am hosting Thanksgiving in 5 days and have done NO planning at all…and oh, I start a new job next week…
* The best part of my day. Going to dinner tonight at the Capital Grille with my handsome hubby to celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary!
We are hanging out all weekend and resting before the craziness begins. Thankfully we only need to drive from Seattle to Issaquah but it is going to be stressful once we get there.
I hope your road trip goes ok. We haven’t road tripped with both the kids yet but I imagine it’s gotta suck just a little.
I love a road trip! And I love your blog. I listed you as a recipient for a blogger award that I recently received and am passing on. Check it out here: http://crazylovescompany.wordpress.com/2008/11/22/my-first/
Love that kid-artwork hanging idea Linda!
You are so productive! Our kids are sick and so we are trying not to kill them, what with their whining and their grousing and their general unpleasantness.
The day is almost over here.
I cleaned my salamander’s tank (I know, weird)
Worked out this morning
Read part of a book!
Played Sly “of us” with my six year old (don’t ask)
We were supposed to go up to the Sportsman’s club today to shoot, but it is too damn cold!
I totally can’t deal with anything X-mas until after Thanksgiving. Once Thanksgiving is over I am all about X-mas.
I woke up not feeling well, and went in to work anywhere. I spent three hours waiting for the IS guys to call me back and/or fix my issue before giving up and going home. As soon as I got there, there was an email saying the problem was resolved.
So now I’m crafting and watching Dirty Jobs. Maybe I’ll make some Mac and Cheese, but probably will just get something pre-made that I hope will help me feel better, but won’t.
Happy Saturday!
I just got back from spending too much money at TJ Maxx (jeans), Ross (two sweaters) and Ulta (you don’t even want to know). By the by, I have gotten through customs faster that I have the line at Ross. The combination of my cashier’s four inch long nails and her complete and utter inability to give a shit really slowed things down.
Am taking advantage of husband being away and am tidying up the house and am contemplating having fish tacos delivered to enjoy while I watch the Texas Tech game coming up here at 8p. I’m praying they won’t get cornholed on national television.
WRECK ‘EM TECH!
Cleaned the bedroom and bathroom, went for a long run. Tonite I’m going to look at art and then go out to dinner. I hear you on the holiday schizoness. I like this time of year too, but why does it have to be soooo much work?
I cleaned the entire condo and did all the laundry. My new “Furminator” came in the mail today and I “Furminated” the cats. Thanks for much for mentioning this in one of your past blogs. I swear I ended up with enough fur to mold another cat!
–read all morning
–brunch
–watched a week’s worth of Jon Stewart/Steve
Colbert
–knit on a sock, knit a sweater sleeve
–tea while planning Thanksgiving menu
–changed sheets, showered
–more tea
–getting ready to finish reading The Widows of Eastwick until bedtime
Sorry, young ones, paid my dues, now is my time to relax.
low carb blue monster kicks the bulls ass.
Following Amy’s comment about the furminator, thanks for the recommendation on the blowdryer. My hair is actually the one to thank you, it’s never looked better.
Ate lunch at Jason’s Deli. Best broc-n- cheese soup ever.
I took Xmas card pictures of my friend + her family.
Made huge vat of chilli.
Caught up on my DVRed programs. LOVES Lipstick Jungle!
PS: It’s totally F-ing fun to make snowmen out of styrophome balls. Riley would love that shit.
I painted my new master bedroom.
Then, I finally showered.
I had planned on “spring cleaning” but a winter time version today but that FAILED. I did end up moping the kitchen and family room but with toys still all over the place, I’m not sure I can actually say I cleaned. Instead, we played with legos and blocks, wrestled and took a very long nap.
First, I love your hair.
I re-wrapped my broken toe and watched Summer Heights High – hilarious. I went to the Totally Thomas Train store and bought yet another train for my ridiculously spoiled kid. I am now officially “off the clock” so my husband will feed the kid and put him to bed while I read trash magazines and waste time online. Oh, and I ate an entire box of Entenmann’s Glazed Devil’s Food Popems doughnut holes.
had a friend and her toddler in for breakfast, went to a craft fair, bought Stella a “spinny top” that she loved and promptly lost, updated my store, broke my external hard drive, made a play tent for Stella, picked up a week’s worth of toys off the floor and wrote a blog post. Love the artwork display!!
* woke up to about 15 cms of snow….stressed because we don’t have our winter tires installed yet.
* went to market, brought kid home in stressful weather vowed to stay home today and relax…
* played on floor with kid, fed kid, played on floor with kid…watched kid attempt crawling with no real success….fed kid (you get the picture)…back on floor
* happily put kid to bed…stacked some wood, shovelled just a bit…and ahh supper…ahh quiet…
tomorrow…repeat
Ha! My day sounds a lot like yours! I woke up this morning, re-arranged my furniture and put up my Christmas Tree. I then went out to do some Christmas shopping and returned home to do all of my Christmas baking- Banana bread, Chocolate Crinkles, Lemon Lavender Cookies and Banana Bread :)
Totally procrastinated about doing the semester’s worth of assignments I have to do (YAY almost last class in this dumpy MEd program!!) I did make a very nice list outling everything I have yet to do though. It’s THREE LEGAL PAD PAGES LONG. So now I’m reading blogs and ignoring again. Also, walked the fat puppy, much to his disdain, built a fire, sorted mail, baked cookies, and tidied the living room. I can be SO productive when procrastinating!!
How did you do the art hanging thingy….is it a kit or did you make it yourself?? Its SO much better than having the fridge cluttered with art projects. I need one. :)
Hello Linda,
I came across your blog via Defective Yeti and have spent the last couple of weeks reading through your archives. I just arrived at the present day, and I feel sort of happy yet bummed, the way I do when I finish a really good book. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the story of the last few years of your life. Not even joking when I say that if I wasn’t laughing out loud, then I trying to keep from sobbing. You have such a cute and funny family. Congratulations!
TOOK the dogs to the park *twice*
BOUGHT ingredients for cranberry sauce which is always my contribution to Thanksgiving at my parents’. One sweet: cranberries with dried cherries and cloves, and one savory: cranberry onion jam.
MADE the oatmeal cookies from the quaker box lid. They weren’t very good.
GOING now to watch Summer Heights High on HBO on demand (thanks for the idea mamaritchie!)
Stayed in jammies all day with the family and just hung out. It was perfect. Theo’s cutting his 5th tooth and while he’s still fairly agreeable, I didn’t want to risk an all day excursion. Oh! I sent updated photos of the baby to family and friends. Like, through the MAIL. I’m kickin’ it old school!
My husband and I were beyond ambitious today and took the kids to a Native American museum on a nearby reservation. We went with the bizarre idea that our 3-year-old and 1.5-year-old might learn something about Thanksgiving. Ummm…yeah, right. Luckily, there were enough animal dioramas and village recreations to keep the little ones entertained. It was actually a great museum — what I could catch from it as we sped through, that is. Tomorrow, I’m stealing your idea for displaying art projects.
uh…i made oatmeal in the morning then i changed lots of diapers and footsies, then got a phone call from our relatives announcing that they can’t come to thanksgiving that means we are going to have a very small thanksgiving this year, just 5 people together, kinda strange…
christmas? I can’t handle it yet. Must devote full attention to turkey thighs first.
Today, I slept till 10. We hired a babysitter JUST so I could sleep late. It’s been a looong month. Then I realized I needed some damn holiday cards, so ordered some online. And then, I took the two kids to the dentist. Yep, all of us had appointments. Do I know how to show my kids a good time or what? We are taking them to a kiddie museum tomorrow to make up for the lack-of-stimulation Saturday.
I’m new to this blog, new to the blogosphere. My little boy has mild cerebral palsy, I blog about him, life, whatever. Come visit me sometime at http://www.lovethatmax.blogspot.com
Enjoyed the two awesome naps the little man took. Of course he woke up screaming shortly after I went to bed last night so it’s only fair that he takes good naps to make up for it.
Had some friends over for dinner – pizza. My tongue misses pizza but as I’m suddenly reminded, my tummy is not a fan.
Fretting about all the preparations for Thanksgiving. I need a roasting pan! I need a second crock pot! I don’t really NEED any of this but cooking for a small mob is a really good excuse for retail therapy.
PS – If you want a break in the middle of your 7+ hour trip to Oregon, we’re just south of Portland. :)
Watched our OSU game (Ohio State)and celebrated when the Buckeyes won 42-7!!! OSU football is the only sport I can stand to watch on TV, so my sports crazed husband is thrilled that we watch those games together. Then, our whole family took a L.O.N.G. nap and we ordered pizza for dinner. It was a nice way to spend a cold winter Saturday. Today, we’ll go to Church and clean the house in preparation for the family Thanksgiving that is at our house this year. My husband wants to deep fry a turkey. Keep in mind he barely knows how to make toast. I just pray he doesn’t burn our house down :)
Totally need to know if the art hanging thing is a kit or you made it yourself! (either way you’ve got to post where you got it or project instructions) I’ve been having horrible pangs of guilt lately about quietly tucking all daily artwork in-between the newspapers in the recycling box. Perhaps choosing the daily gems out of the pile and displaying them like this for a little will help to ease that guilt….perhaps!
And me..well hubby got home from 6 days on your side of the continent, while I was back here on the northern side of the Michigan border with the girls and the freaking non-stop snow. And now I’m wondering why the hell it is so much easier to keep the house tidy with only one adult present!! What the hell?? Friday night I had 4 girls from work over, drank wayyyy to much wine, ate wayyyyy to much appetizer type munchies and yet Sat. morning it took all of 10 minutes to clean up…now there is shit laying around everywhere….wtf?
I really like the way you’ve hung the kids’ artwork. It looks like an art gallery!
please tell what you used to hang the wire up (the silver ball looking things)? (heh. I said balls.)
I took ambien last night and acted like a fucking idiot. It gives you “travelers amnesia” so I have no clue what I did. My husband said I was annoying. Uh, yeah. This morning my parents have the kids, so we’re eating donuts and sitting on our laptops. Aren’t WE fun?
I am doing laundry and cleaning the bathroom then later this afternoon I am going to see Twilight. For the fourth time this weekend… yes I am aware I’m a complete dork.
So it’s Sunday but it sounds like today will likely be a close repeat of yesterday; woke to 4 year old boy screaming bloody murder because daddy wouldn’t give him an ice cream cup, lay in bed listening to the entire foot stomping/head bursting/semi-exorcist display and sort of chuckling to myself at daddy’s response (“You aren’t supposed to yell back until you are 15!”). Creighton doesn’t have another basketball game today so I don’t know what will take the boys out and away but I’m silently (and not so silently) begging for SOMETHING to get the boys out of the house.
Myself? I finished a quilt top yesterday and made a cover for a chair this morning. I’ve got loads of other sewing projects to work on (need a tote bag? check http://www.mantofev.com for some nice, homemade “green” shopping bags-hint hint hint) and I may even consider some sort of Thanksgivingish baked good since we’re not eating here this year. Something tells me cranberry cornbread might be a good one to try…
Thrilling weekend.
-Scrubbed kitchen floor by hand because the food stuck on it was starting to complain about being too crowded.
-Plan to clean bathrooms later. Very exciting.
-Wipe toddlers sticky green boogers off of her face and attempt to remove them from her hair after her naps.
-Watched Wall-E with family and we are now referring to everyone with their E name. Such as Mom-E, Dad-E…
-Was able to sleep in both yesterday and today. And yes, I now consider 7 am to be sleeping in.
my family is being kind of…crap lately. so…can i be part of your family for a while instead? the pic of you making xmas stuff with riley is so awesome. and all the kiddy artwork displayed…just awesome. seriously, will you be my mom?
~woke up at 6 to take stupid antibiotics for crummy root canalled stupid, crummy tooth.
~could not go back to sleep
~turned on Christmas music and arranged “Jingle Bells” for an upcoming band concert
~puttered around and cleaned house a bit
~went to spin class and had an hour of mouth breathing…
~will clean up yard and hang outdoor Christmas stuff because the weather is nice-ish and I don’t want to do it in the snow or rain.
~clean up inside; put hallowe’en decorations away.
~make the yellow cake recipe that my 7 year old worked a week on to write out nicely for me.
~make son breakfast right now as he is STARVING!
Have a good weekend!~
Baking pies and sucking back the Redbull.
It’s a permanent addiction for me, I’m afraid.
Sigh.
My husband is totally geeked out by the idea of the LED Christmas lights, too. I first saw them advertised at Lowe’s, so I’ll have to check them out there, but did you guys have luck finding them for cheap somewhere?
Someone sent your URL to me on Twitter and I’m so glad she did–your blog is heelarious.
LED Xmas lights are the bomb-we found ours at a local garden type store-English Gardens, I think, but I’ve seen them at Lowe’s, Home Depot and the like. I think we paid $10 a string but it was pretty close to Xmas so they may have been on sale.
