Well, I didn’t have a chance to ask you what your weekend plans were before the weekend actually happened, and I totally missed hearing about what you had going on. My own weekend was pretty low key, as I mentioned we had hoped for a babysitter on Saturday night but that didn’t pan out, so we sat around and watched Mission Impossible 3, a movie which begs the question, how does Ethan Hunt know which self-destructing message-bearing items can be passively held while they poof into a harmless cloud of smoke, and which need to be tossed vigorously aside before they detonate in a skin-melting ball of flames?

We visited a Blockbuster with Riley yesterday in order to collect at least one horror movie for Halloween night, and for the first time out in public, we put him down and he walked next to us. It was sort of wonderful and sweet for about one hot second, then it rapidly became a nightmare as he yanked his hand away and began reeling happily around the store like a tiny shitfaced Frankenstein, wanting to grab everything and resisting our attempts to corral him with furious, head-turning howls. I wished mightily for a tranquilizer gun loaded with toddler-dropping ammo, but all I could do was try and minimize the chaos until we got him back into the car, where JB and I looked at each other and simultaneously said, “Oh shit.”

Back in the good old days, like two weeks ago, when Riley was just starting to toddle around the house, I took some video because it was so incredible and exciting and who knew that I was going to rue the day he took his first step. RUUUUUE.

Here’s a short montage of a few different clips:

Ah, happier times, before my son was mobile enough to trample an entire video store.

Okay, so get me all caught up, will you? What did you do over the weekend?

On Friday night, my husband and I cleaned the house and packed for Saturday. We were up at 6 on Saturday and made our 12th grade son a huge breakfast and got him on his way to his potentially last high school football game. We drove 4 hours to watch the playoff game, and were pleasantly surprised when our team, which was ranked lower, won the game! We drove 4 hours home and spent Sunday finishing the cleaning, grocery shopping, attending church and preparing for this week.

The unexpected win sets us up for THIS exciting schedule next weekend:

Friday: Send daughter on bus with cross country team, get dressed in long underwear/turtle neck/sweatshirt/thick socks/jeans/boots/ear muffs/scarf/mittens/winter coat and watch another potentially last football game on icy metal bleachers. Saturday: Get up at 5:30 a.m., drag son out of bed and into car, add one beagle in a kennel, drive 4 1/2 hours to watch daughter run in cross country meet, go out to eat with family, drive 4 1/2 hours home. Sunday: Collapse.

I’m late to the weekend recap, but had to gush about that video montage. It’s adorable. My baby girl is a new walker, too, and it’s awesome but also frickin’ annoying sometimes. She’s a troublemaker, too, gets into everything. Therefore, I spent my weekend with a screwdriver, applying plastic locks to cabinet doors and cursing loudly.

I wanted to give a shout out to Amy (southkona). This is my second Halloween on Oahu, and the first where not hugely pregnant. Your wekeend description sounded super great. I, unfortunately, spent my weekend with a sick four-year-old boy and never got out to get pumpkins and, alas, there seem to be none left on the enitre Island. Ah, Hawaii.

My weekend totally rocked. We were finishing up an 8-day trip to Seattle and Olympic National Park. On Thursday we drove back from the park, visited Archie McPhee, and got vastly and terribly lost trying to find our hotel near Sea-Tac (that part totally did NOT rock). On Friday, we drove down to see Mount Rainier. Unfortunately, all the visitors’ centers and the scenic routes were closed for the season, but we still got to boggle at the mountain itself. That night, we had dinner with one of my good friends and her husband and adorable one-year-old son. On Saturday, we drove up to Woodinville and went on two winery tours. MB got mellowed out enough from the tastings that I convinced him to buy 8 bottles of pretty decent stuff (by our standards, anyway), which was fun. He almost never buys anything nice for himself, so I had a good time convincing him to indulge. After the wineries, we went to Capitol Hill to hang out with a friend of mine from college, which was wonderful. Then we took a red-eye flight home and tried not to worry about how our checked wine would fare. (All bottles arrived home intact.)

That Riley montage is awesome. He has the best laugh!

Yay! Elliot just started to walk on Friday. I’m gonna stay in my proud-mama-euphoric state for a little longer and pretend I did not just read your entry, nor watch your video. Heh.
We had a fun weekend. It snowed gobs and gobs so we bundled up little mister and took him sledding. We all had a lovely time. The look of joy on his face was priceless. He also enjoyed many tasty snowflakes. We carved our pumpkins, which Elliot also delighted in. He really got into it!
I bought some patagonia long underwear on ebay (locally-why didn’t I realize earlier to try and ebay locally?? saves on shipping!) I also made carrot cake cupcakes and roasted red pepper hummus for E’s halloween party that he didnt’ end up going to because of THE SNOT. They sent him home a fun party treat baggy though, wasn’t that nice?

Pondered whether or not to buy the house across the street. For the third week in a row. Did some yard work with my boy, so that I could be physically aggressive with the weeds and get out my stress over said house purchasing dilema while the child sat in a puddle of mud and filled up his sensory diet thankyouverymuch. Made a trek to the mall with the child to get a watch battery for my husband’s watch. It’s not the battery. Also, the head turning howls of an almost 6 year old who doesn’t want to be contained are much worse than I realized, when performed in a large empty portion of the cement mall hallway.

So I guess I’m not thrilled with how my weekend turned out. Could you tell?

you should probably go ahead and designate which pull out drawer in the kitchen is his, and fill it with HIS stuff. =) ya know, just to get a jump on things. here is my small piece of useful advice: when my kids were little i left everything out, so they grew up with “things” around and were used to it. once they investigate and you set boundries, it’s much easier when you go to other peoples homes, various store outings… ect., because then those “things” don’t seem as shiney and grabable anymore. and now i’m raising my grandson the same way, totally still works.

The best part was JB multitasking. Playing with Riley while petting Dog. That’s a good father.

On Saturday I was table official at a Division 1 match in the GB wheelchair basketball league. This was my first time officiating since I qualified earlier this year and I was really nervous that something would go wrong and I would make a complete idiot of myself in front of everybody. However the referees were helpful and the game didn’t get too frantic, so it went quite well, even though our team lost. Afterwards both my sons played in a practice match for the Junior team. (My younger son (16) is permanently in a wheelchair, the older (18) is able bodied). The rest of the weekend was pretty relaxed.

I can’t help but wonder if you’ll feel the same way when he starts to talk…everytime I pick up the 8 year-old I babysit from school and he starts yammering about Pokemon on the car ride home, I think in my head “And his mom LIVES with this?!” They’re so much cuter when they’re quiet….

What a gorgeous montage. I love what you do. You inspire me all the time. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone for our children. They have trasnformed from babyhood into these mobile, grown up babies.

Guess it’s time for another. hehe

So – since my munchkin is barely toddling now, I have two weeks to panic?

I ran a 5K on Saturday where people wore costumes. I was beat by a tortoise. Seriously.

Crazy-relaxing weekend. Friday night movies and sushi with the bf. Saturday diner, errands, Indian food, Dresden Dolls concert. Sunday lounging in bed, brunch out, couch snuggling/DVD-watching and dinner out with friends.

We did absolute-squat on Saturday (yay!)… but we did it as a *family*, which is the important part, right? Sunday we rearranged the master bedroom to accomodate the basinette for the impending arrival, and I spread the clothes my 2yr old wore the first 0-3-6m of his life around the living room and sorted through to do laundry (I’m fairly certain most of them magically shrunk in storage).

NOTHING! Oh my gosh it was SO NICE. It’s the first weekend in a long time we didn’t really have anything going on. I got all the housework done Saturday morning and had the rest of the weekend to just relax.

I hit homecoming at my university, because even though I graduated 5 years ago, I REFUSE to grow up and treat my liver nicely. 27? WHY NOT drink from 6PM to 4AM and then walk 2 miles back to your cheap motel in high heels?

Oh, and the guy at the grocery store almost rejected my beer purchase with my OWN ACTUAL ID. Although it would have been a funny story, the beer rejection would not have made for a good tailgate.

And my brother fried a turkey and didn’t kill anyone!

We brought our daughter to a baby christening on Sunday and it turns out that she wasn’t invited. My fault – I should have paid more attention to the invite which did only say Mr. and Mrs. So we showed up at the church, got dirty looks, and I took the baby home. My husband went to the dinner afterwards alone. And Saturday, we were supposed to go to this steeplechase horse race (http://www.farhillsrace.org/) but the weather didn’t cooperate. The weekend wasn’t quite what we expected but okay with me. Celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday (10/30)!!

We celebrated the Cards winning the World Series! What fun! Our little man is a toddling curious godzilla himself. We took him to the parade downtown and he was in heaven!

Our power went out for a few hours Sunday night, so my main memory of the weekend is of playing with cards and being mind-numbingly bored. And cold.

And oh man, that video… what is it about baby giggles that makes them so damned adorable? It’s gotta be some sort of survival mechanism.

(…Or maybe I just have more maternal instinct than I thought I did.)

My weekend orbited around the celebration of my parents’ 40th anniversary. Awesome dinner at a schwanky fancy-pants place. Everything else was boring autumn weekend yard work. 40 years dude, blows the mind. Fun night though, great weekend!

Let’s see, weekend events. Well my boyfriend and I bar-hopping in the Haight-Ashbury district and I got shit-faced. We saw some really great costumes (including Towlie from South Park, Borat, and a very real looking Howard Stern). Sunday, we rested and nursed ourselves back to health, then watched The Amazing Race and practiced our bickering for when we go on the show. After that, we watched (oh god, I’m a little embarassed to say this) Midnight Madness. Yes, the movie about the scavenger hunt in Los Angeles with a very young Michael J. Fox. A nice relaxing weekend in San Francisco. By the way…I bought the black version of the wallet you recommended. I love it, thank you so much!

We went Away, and bah, it was glorious. Lots of long baths, television watching and lounging about in spa robes.

Riley is hysterical. Lurching! I love it.

Weekend was good. Drinks after work Friday, 2-for-1 wines not a good idea on an empty stomach, required pizza at 10pm to try and revive me. Flatwarming for some friends on Saturday night, bbq and more wine drinking. Sunday was a big sleep-in and a lazy day doing domestic things and visiting my parents.

Riley is (as always) adorable and that video was gold! The description of him as a ‘tiny shitfaced Frankenstein’ should be copywritten.

Saturday – interviewed potential childcare providers; took an unneccesary trip to Bellevue Square; ate a great dinner out at a new-ish resturaunt with my husband — our first dinner together in a week.
Sunday – groceries; cleaned out closets; tried to figure out where new baby stuff will fit in our “spare” bedroom; overdid it and sat on a heating pad for several hours.

This whole husband working crazy hours thing is killing me — I’m being way too productive around the house and I’m having a hard time remembering to take it easy!!!

riley is getting so big!!

but back to the question asked. my boyfriend and i went to hartford, ct this weekend, i live in nyc. we went to see third eye blind, whom very rarely tour and were completely worth the 2.5 hour trip! one of my favorite bands ever. we also stayed the night at a semi fancy hotel and ate good food. made the most of the trip by seeing all that hartford has to offer, which is very little. the foliage was nice, something i completely miss being from boston. i mean nyc has trees but nothing by comparison and i ramble. bye!

This weekend? WRITE OFF.

I found a new riddle game – highly addicting. I won’t link it here, but its linked on my blog.

Evil. completely evil.

I needed a write off though because in the last 48 hours, I have:

1. Taken possession of a townhouse;
2. Made two visits to town house;
3. Had two and a half wisdom teeth removed (again, see my blog for gory details)
4. Moved half a dozen boxes out to new townhouse;
5. Set up all the billing for new townhouse, so we don’t lose power, gas, etc.

Gah.

I am doing clinicals in the ER, so I assisted in draining a tennis ball sized cyst on a woman’s breast, helped stitch a kid’s lip, another kid’s arm and a woman’s forehead that was about 5 inches long, gapped open about 2 inches, and you could see her skull. She had already been drinking when she fell into the bathtub, cut her head open, saw what she had done, and then drank 6 more shots of vodka so that she wouldn’t feel the pain, called her soon to be ex husband who brought her to the er. Said ex can’t stand the sight of blood, and she was horny so she kept trying to get him to kiss her, and he kept trying to pass out and was gagging. We put a bandage on the wound that was all matted up with her hair, and nasty, and everytime she would lean forward, it would flap off and he would freak. In the meantime, she is trying to get him to get up on the gurney to screw her, she’s covered in blood, he’s trying to not get any on him, and to all females in the room, he is her husband, back the fuck off, and to the good looking doc and tech, he is her ex and they are just friends, and she proceeded to flirt with them too. It was a freak show, it was like a zombie trying to flirt with you. That was Saturday, Sunday, I just tried to recuperate, and enjoyed being in the house alone.
Do I win the grossest halloween weekend prize?

Friday was my last day at my job, and I hope my last day ever working in politics for the rest of my life. I celebrated by dressing up like a witch and going to a bar with friends. I had a second Halloween party the next night, and the rest of the weekend is a bit of a blur. I’ve got two weeks off now as a lady of leisure, so I’m getting all domesticated with the new curtains and the raking of leaves, etc.
