I feel a little bad for making JB sound like a big clueless lunk when it comes to special occasions, so let me tell you what we’re doing this weekend.

It’s our anniversary on Saturday (because why NOT get married on Cinco de Mayo? Celebratory corn chips and beer for life! Well, corn chips, anyway. Corn chips and Red Bull!) (Oh my god that would give you the worst breath ever) and JB’s parents are coming to stay with us for a few days starting tomorrow.

No, wait, it gets better. (Haaaa, seriously, if I just ended it there, would that be grounds for divorce, or what? I’m just saying.)

So they’re going to stay with Riley and bask in his glowing, only-grandchild presence—the little boogereater is probably going to behave like a perfect goddamned angel, too—and JB and I are shacking up in a hotel in downtown Seattle for a couple nights. We’re going to sleep in, go out to dinner (any Seattlelites recommend Crush? I’ve heard good things), order room service breakfast, go see some movies (I’m thinking Hot Fuzz, for one), and tool around the city doing whatever the hell we feel like, sans toddler.

In past years we’ve gone to exotic, tropical locations for our anniversary vacation, but I can’t even tell you how good this local weekend sounds. I’m particularly looking forward to having several meals in a row that I did not have to shop for, prepare, or clean up after. Also, if there is at least one mid-afternoon nap, I will count the occasion as a spectacular success.

JB was the one who pulled the weekend together by making the appropriate reservations and booking the arrival of the grandparents, so despite his cabin-suggesting tendencies, he knows what’s what. JB is good people.

Don’t go thinking he’s Mr. Romance all of a sudden, though. This is still the same man who routinely offers me a “protein snack” when he spots me rustling around in the kitchen.

Your weekend sounds excellent! We got a babysitter last Saturday and went to dinner and to see Hot Fuzz. It was very, very funny, quirky, and goofy! I’d recommend it!

You probably already know about this, being so cosmopolitan and all, but when we were in Seattle for a few days, pre-Alaska cruise, we went on the Washington Dinner Train. Aside from viewing a few parking lots and the back of shopping centers, it was an extremely cool experience. We had a wonderful meal as the train tooled along with a gorgeous view rolling past the windows.

Protein snack. Too much.
That sounds like a great thing! Too bad we’re being forced (FORCED, I tell you!) to replace our hot water heater tomorrow. We have no hot water. That means no shower. Discuss.

The simple joys once your a parent, getting away from the kids. “Protein snack”, I’ll have to steal that one.

GOD, the protein snack. I have been offered my share of “protein shakes” when I admit to feeling peckish or snacksy in the evening. And has this ever resulted in a blow job? No. And yet he offers, time and time again.

I recommend the Icon Grill for one of your meals. Have a great time! P.S. “protein snack” — Haaaa!!!

What, is “protein snack” in the Dude’s Handbook or something? Sheesh..and I’d be willing to bet money that they *all* think they are being funny and original.

Sounds like a great weekend. We will be reorganizing our apartment to make room for a baby. Due in 2 and a half weeks, by God!

HAhahahaha….and here I was thinking that my husband was the only one who does that. Got any snarky responses? Because I usually either laugh, or manage an eye roll.

Oh man- Glad to know that I’m not the only one whose husband routinely offers the dreaded “protien snack”. Ugh. Why they even think that’s funny is what I’d like to know. I also wonder if that ever works..I mean, at some point did some guy offer a “protien snack” and actually have a taker??

Add me to the list, and I usually laugh and roll my eyes when husband offers the “protein snack”

Your weekend sounds heavenly – have fun!

Ooh, a midday nap! That is one of the things I miss the most from my pre- baby life. My husband and I went and stayed at a hotel like 2 miles from our house over Christmas, and it was fantastic. Have fun!

If you get the urge for art at some bizarre hour the Seattle Art Museum will be open all night Saturday for it’s grand reopening, and it’s free.

Happy Anniversary! Have a great weekend :)

Do your husbands also “have your spicy sausage right here, baby”? Mine occasionally offers me alternatives to the protein snack. “Uh, whatever, honey. I think I’ll just have a piece of fruit. No, not a banana.”

I was wondering what was so horrible about offering you a protein snack if you were looking for something to eat… Then I read the comments.

I’d say I’ve never heard of that before, but I’m sure I did back in high school and just managed to forget it.

Crush is great – amazing food, great atmosphere, perfect place for an anniversary dinner. I actually prefer to sit at the bar and watch them do their magic in the open air kitchen.

I’m having a similar kind of weekend. Here are some random suggestions for downtown dining: Steelhead Diner, Matt’s in the Market (both at the Market), Crow (lower Queen Anne), Serafina (Eastlake – best atmosphere ever), and all of the Tom Douglas places (Dahlia for formal, Palace Kitchen for late night and Serious Pie – you have to go to Serious Pie).

It is Opening Day of boating season, so you’ll want to avoid the U-District and Montlake (unless you want to watch the races and boat parade, which is overrated).

Have a great weekend! I love being a tourist in Seattle.

Crush is great, we really enjoyed ourselves. Icon Grill I used to love but it seems to be going downhill. Crow on QA is fabulous, but plan to make your reservations about 1/2 hour earlier than you want to be seated as they’re always running late. I’ve heard good things about Barolo (downtown), but haven’t yet been there. Oh, I could go on and on… :)

I’m heading down to a friend’s wedding reception on Lake Union on Saturday. The good news is — it is supposed to be SUNNY WEATHER this weekend!!! May we all enjoy good times in Seattle and hope for minimal hassles with traffic.

Depending on how swanky your accommodations are, you might luck out with the restaurant downstairs. Several are popping up to much acclaim. I still dig Wasabi, Dragonfish and (a little further out) Moxie.
Last month’s Weekly listed Crush as a romantic selection in its dining guide. Maybe JB will be so inspired, he’ll gift you with a pearl necklace on your anniversary! Enjoy.

Happy Anniversary, gurl! Will you please post some pictures from your wedding again? I recall there being a post in the past with a photo montage of you all and I ogled it like it was a Monet in a museum.

“Protein snack” HAHAHAHA! Hubby offers me a ‘protein shake’ or, if I’m feeling to sick for lovin’ he offers me some of Dr. Hubby’s Root Oil, “More potent if extracted yourself!” Sounds like a lovely weekend, hope it is, indeed, a spectacular success.

Not only is it opening day of boating season, but a giant water main just broke under the university bridge and they have closed the bridge for an undertermined amount of time. Maybe even weeks. Yet another reason along with opening day to avoid Montlake/U District area.

Crush is supposed to be great, and also not mentioned is Lola another Tom Douglas wonder, that has a kinda mediterranean focus.

ENJOY! Sounds like a fabulous weekend!

The weekend sounds great – my parents often do the same thing, and they seem to enjoy it. Of course, my brother and I haven’t been toddlers for quite some time, but somehow they still find this to be the best use of their anniversary weekend. Go figure.

Anyway, Hot Fuzz is awesome. Mind numbingly, stealing-scenes-from-every-cop-movie-ever-ly awesome. It’s right up there with Sean of the Dead, and possibly even more awesome (though maybe less funny). Enjoy the weekend, and tell him to get you a spa vacation next year. =P

And also, we ALL love us some JB.
Is he gonna look for the 50k in gold and the keys to the volvo that they are doing with the pirates of the caribbean contest thing? The commercial says sunken treasure and they show them putting it over the side. Cuz you know, that would be cool.

Ginger, I’m dying. Mine frequently offers me “the sausage” as well. HEH. Or, my personal favorite, which is the offer of either “something to suck on” or a milkshake.

Because he’s gross, that’s why. GOD.

Ok my husband must have missed the man meeting because he’s never suggested a protein snack, and no, I’m sure it’s not because he’s “too classy” to do so. Needless to say I’m taking that phrase to my grave because if I even mentioned it in passing, I’d never hear the end of it every freakin’ time I was in the kitchen.

Also Hot Fuzz = totally hilarious. Well worth the full price/babysitter hassle we went through to see it. Just damned funny. I love those guys.

Go to any of the Tom Douglas restaurants. When my husband and I vacationed in Seattle last year, we planned the whole trip around those restaurants. (Are we the only people who plan food trips?) Anyway, they’re Lola, Palace Kitchen, Etta’s and Dahlia. I haven’t tried Serious Pie. Didn’t have a bad dish the whole time.

Excellent idea. My husband and I get away at least once a year (sometimes twice, if we’re lucky). You know where we go? About 1/2 hour away, to the same Marriott. We eat at the same restaurants and see the same things. IT. IS. WONDERFUL. No children, no mother (she lives with us), no cooking, no cleaning, no nothing. We just eat, sleep, lay by the pool and… stuff. Have a great weekend.

We have some similar things going on here! Sunday is MY anniversary (why not get married the day AFTER Cinco de Mayo? No beer for me, either – I am a hardcore drunk). MY parents are coming and will sit the kid while my husband and I steal away into the night to a place with a jacuzzi in our room and no waking up at 7AM to change a poopy diaper. YAY! I just made a reservation at a fabulous restaurant. All of this is a surprise for my husband who has been pouting recently about our money situation. He was really bummed out after I showed him one of those spa websites your commenters posted. (Something “de eros” was the best). Anyway – I hope you and JB have a great time!

I concur with Lola’s, on 4th and, uh, Virginia? Even though they’re not on the menu, if you ask for the chickpea fries, you will be in heaven. Trust me, I’ve introduced many a grateful friend to the chickpea fries. They’re snarf-a-licious!

Also, I can’t believe no one has recommended one of the coziest and most romantic restaurants in all of downtown, the Pink Door! I’d try and make it there for at least one meal if I were you.

Ahh, the frequent mention of the possible “protein shake.” Swear to god, the first cold sore in some 14 years that I got last week was AWESOME as it gave the best excuse ever. “No, darling. Not tonight, unless of course you want THE HERP.

Awww, all these thoughtful men, worried about our protein intake! My creative boyfriend also suggests that he has an excellent moisturizer I should try, when I complain about my skin.
