I have another blogging-related question for you, since you guys are always so insightful and smart and shit (seriously, it’s kind of intimidating, visualizing all of your ginormous pulsating brains. I bet you’re good at math, too, and you can parallel park without backing and filling nine thousand times, and I bet you can even put on mascara without gaping your mouth wide open like a Golden Retriever).

Starting sometime in the next week or so, I’ll be writing a blog for Work It, Mom!. I know, you’re probably thinking that the last thing the internet needs is another goddamned blog from me, because haven’t I sullied the web enough with my foul language and tiresome Simpsons references and inability to spell “restaurant” without using a spellchecker every single time?

Well of course not. Voluminous Blog Content of Dubious Quality, that’s my motto!

Work It, Mom! asked me a while back if I’d be interested in doing this, and I reluctantly declined because I thought it would be hard to find the extra time. Lately, though, I’ve been thinking that things like interesting writing projects are things I need to make time for, as long as I can do it without jettisoning any other things I love to do (you know, like spending time with my son. Oh, and watching television while flopped on the couch and eating fistfuls of Triscuits).

So I’ve decided vacuuming is off my to-do list starting now, because I’m positive that will free up a useful amount of time each week. Say, anyone need some extra dog fur? I HAVE LOTS.

Anyway, the blog is going to be focused on product recommendations, parenting tips, and idea-sharing—fun, useful stuff for busy moms. We’ve been kicking around name ideas, and I could really use your feedback. Here’s what’s in the hopper:

Mixed Bag
Milk and Cookies
Tools of the Trade
A La Mode
Creature Comforts
The Right Stuff

Are any of those jumping out at you? Let me know what your top choice is, and if you have a blog name idea of your own, please share!

I favor “Mom a la Mode” or some variation of that. I think it will be great to have a little more snark, I mean, little more Linda out there. I usually only read here and comment rarely anywhere, but congrats and I’ll be looking forward to reading more. ;)

I like tools of the trade the best! Like what we do actually does matter and we are part of our own workers union or something.
I can’t spell restraunt either. see… that is how I spell it off the top of my head. NOt even going to spell check it. that is just how it is. So no brain pulsating over here for you to worry about.
I am excited about your new blog! Good luck to you!

I love Milk & Cookies. It sounds homey, fun, and tasty all at the same time. Of course, I AM pregnant and that could be influencing my decision somewhat…

I know this isn’t a title, but I wanted to throw out our own organic, little DVD series called Refuse To Say Cheese, for parents on how to take better photos of your kids. (www.merakohblog.com visit the DVD for parents category to see fun trailers)

This project has been my “other” baby for a year now since I’m a mom of little ones. My husband and I also shoot weddings all over the country and teach workshops. In fact, VH1 featured our studio last week which was so crazy…more scary but fun :)!! The DVDs are instructional for parents but written and filmed in a fun, easy to understand, inspiring photos of kids, with common language and had footage of me “attempting” to model the exercises with my own kids. :) I wanted another option from the DVD’s Nikon and Canon provide–something a little more entertaining! :)

It only came out a few weeks ago, (DVD 2 is still being finished up), but we are already recieving such great feedback from moms all over the country.

And please feel free to delete this if it doesn’t tie in here at all! I totally understand!!

I love your blog!

If I had to pick from that list I’d pick A La Mode but none of them really say Linda to me. Sundrymourning, Sundrybuzz, Purple Is A Fruit, ……….I like What JenniferB suggested. Or what about Tricky Suctopus?

I like Milk and Cookies…as a title as well. =)

I can’t do BASIC ADDITION without the aid of a calculator. I cannot parallel park…period. And I haven’t put mascara on in a month. (Mostly because I had to put my fifteen year old dog to sleep and I’m still crying about it pretty regularly, but still, it’s been liberating to not put on make-up before work every morning!)

I like A La Mode and Milk and Cookies… but I just now realized those are both references to sugary sweet foods. Mmmm.

1. Mixed Bag – I like this one best because it’s strikes me as unique, and is a memorable name. Like “Oh, I should go check Mixed Bag for updates!”

2. Milk and Cookies – Sounds cute and catchy!

I am kind of partial to a la mode, but only if you can get the accent on the “a” I am un-partial (is that legal) to The Right Stuff…it just makes me think of The New Kids on the Block. Can’t wait to read more from you!

I like Milk & Cookies or A La Mode best. This Weight Watchers-imposed dessert deprivation is starting to get to me, apparently. I blame you for getting me started on WW in the first place.

*snicker* Traveling the interwebs a while back I came across a picture of the front of porno with an older woman holding a platter of cookies in front of her, covering her bare essentials…It was titled “MILF and Cookies”….I don’t think “Work it, Mom!” is supposed to be taken quite that literally though. Nor do I think you’re tacky enough to name your newest blog after a bad porno. I just hope someone someday is.

I also thought I was the only one that has a connipition every time they try to spell “restaurant” …or “necessity”

Wait… you don’t want to be known as the “Mixed Bag Lady”… so maybe cancel my vote for that name.

You at least need a witty subtitle. All the suggested titles are just not snarky enough. I assume this new blog will contain some snarkiness – right? RIGHT?

Tools of the Trade hits me well.

BTW, if you want to jettison the vaccuuming, buy a Roomba. It’s not perfect, but it does keep the biggest majority of the black lab hair off my wood floors. I hate to sweep, vaccuum and mop. This helps a lot!

I like “Tools of the Trade” as opposed to the A-La-Mode and Milk/Cookies type title because “Tools” and “Trade” say to me: “a blog for people who are working.” As in, working out in industry (gag, that place where I am fortunate enough to work, hork choke). You describe your blog content plan as being somewhere busy moms can go for ideas, but I’m thinking that it can work for any general busy people, not just moms (even though that’s the emphasis) who are trying to juggle multiple responsibilities as well as a job.

Wow, that previous thing there was a really long-ass sentence. See, I’ll never be a writer.

I think there’s a lot of mom-blogs out there already, but not too many that emphasize working and sorting out many priorities. If you want to differentiate yourself, go with the more work-oriented name rather than food-and-girly oriented names. Just my opinion, I’ll read it regardless of what you call it!

How about something like:

All Stretched Out

which works on several levels.

Swistle

1) I AM good at math, but can neither parallel park nor apply eye make-up with a closed mouth.

2) Simpsons references, TIRESOME?

3) Yay, another Sundry blog to read! The more = the better!

4) I remember restaurant like rest stop and bull (taur prefix) in a china shop and the ensuing rant by the owner. That looks way better when it’s in my head rather than written down. Besides, if you really did it that way, you’d end up with an extra t and an extra r. In fact, forget I said anything.

5) I like “Mixed Bag” because it brings to mind a working mother’s purse filled with her career stuff and her baby stuff. I picture it spilling out (palm pilot, cell phone, pacifier, diaper…) over the banner at the top.

6) I like “Tools of the Trade” because trade brings to mind “work,” and tools brings to mind “ways to cope,” and trade also brings to mind the work-child trade-off stuff. I picture one of those workbelts, equipped with baby bottle, palm pilot, cell phone, some sort of scales of justice, etc.

I like ‘A La Mode Linda’ for alliterative & rolls-off-the-tongue purposes :).

I don’t think it would be egostistical either, because you are often deliciously self-deprecating (note: references to parallel parking & ‘restaurant’ :)) & no-one would read it & think you thought you were the shit (which, actually, you are, but anyway :)) … I think they’d read it as slightly tongue-in-cheek AND reflective of how you are always seeking varied & best ways to raise your lil’un & live life in general :).

For some reason Milk and Cookies jumped out at me!

Hey send me some of that dog hair, I already have about 200 pounds of it, I could start a side job of making smelly fur coats that make you sneeze…….just don’t get them wet!

All of the choices are pretty common sayings. Why not add your own flair to one of the choices? Someone above suggested “Mom a la Mode” and I like that a little better.

Definitely Tools of the Trade, it works for working moms and working moms who don’t work in an office.

I personally love Milk and Cookies, but don’t see how it fits the blog topic, exactly.

I think based on name alone, Milk and Cookie would appeal to me and maybe trillions of other moms. Because I want Milk and Cookies. They are delicious.

Delicous food references are always eye catching. And good.
