There’s this section of our backyard where the previous owners once had a large vegetable garden. JB would like to build a shop there someday, but for now it’s pretty much just a barren stretch of dirt and unwatered grass. For the last few days, Riley’s been talking about digging a “well” out there, and I’ve waved my hand in the universal Mom-language of Sure, okay, dig whatever you want, just don’t pester me right now. I’ve seen him working away with a narrow shovel, and I figured there would eventually be a small hole or two to deal with at some point. How much digging can an almost-eight-year-old really do, after all?
As it turns out:
That is fucking awesome.
I’m dying! That is awesome.
That kind of persistence cannot be taught!
lol sounds about right… I let my kids “dig for dinosaur bones” and they uncovered an underground cable line, scared me to death so no more digging but kids sure do love to dig!
That is HILARIOUS!
Oh no, Baby Jessica!
He planted a Dylan tree!
Bwahahahaha!!!
That is the most awesome picture EVER. For a variety of reasons. The crossed legs, the hand on the hip, the solid grip in the shovel, the SMILES on both of the boys, the “head only” view. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only hope is that he slept well afterwards??
Hee! Dude wasn’t kidding around.
Oh holy cow! I am seriously claustrophobic and that photo gave me the sweats.
Get him out! Get him out! Get him out! He’s being BURIED ALIIIIIIIVE!!
That was the best scroll-down photo I’ve seen in ages. I laughed big time!
They both look so proud!!
So. Stinking. Funny! My son surprises me every single time I turn around.
We found a minor hole had been dug near our home’s foundation last week, most likely by the neighbor’s lab, and we had our 7 year old out there with us filling it with dirt. When we had finished and were congratulating him on a job well done he followed it up with, “Man, those GD moles sure can make a mess.” Just out of the blue. Not based upon anything we had said. It was probably the most hilarious thing I’ve ever heard.
That is straight up hilarious! Thanks for the early morning giggle!
I love this so much.
I have two boys 17 months a part so I love your blog and I GET IT! I laughed so hard!!! This was one of the best things of I have read in a long time.
Holy shit. :-) This picture is gold. How proud is he?!?
HAHA! That is fantastic. Also, he totally has the perfect accomplishment smile on his face!
Creepiest scrolldown pic, ever. Ha!
Hahahaha. Well, I guess if JB doesn’t set up a shop there by next spring, you can always send out Riley with some seeds and a tiller.
Best picture!
Best scroll-down yet! Hahaha!
This is great!
That picture made my morning (says mom of two boys)! I’m still laughing.
I laughed and laughed. Couldn’t see Dylan until I scrolled down. Riley’s a great well digger!
I totally laughed like Muttley when seeing that.
Pure awesome – the best was in my feed reader I was just reading along and thinking how nice, Riley looks so proud to have a shovel and then I scrolled down to the hole. Cue: snorty laugh.
This is PRICELESS
He looks so proud of himself – – that is really awesome!! How cute are your babies!!!?!?!?
That.was.awesome!! Totally not expecting that large of a hole!
ok that is HILARIOUS. Hands down the best thing I’ve seen all summer. I love it!
Scrolldown genius.
Walt should hire them to dig in the desert and bury those money barrels. I bet they would love it!
LOOK how proud Riley is of himself! ;)
Haa! Love their expressions.
That made my day. So awesome!
I need a tree dug up lol is Riley available? Also let him keep going he can make it into a storm shelter!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
A former employer built a snow fort as child. It was so large the city came over and said they if they didnt demo it they would need a permit/inspection.
Hysterical!!!
Reminds me of that cave/lair discussion regarding cat. Very awesome.
Love.
on my feedly page, I only saw Dylan at first. Then, I scrolled down and about lost my Fresca all over the screen. I loved this picture!!!
Hysterical! Digging straight down to China!
BEST SCROLL DOWN PICTURE EVER
God, the PRIDE. Love it.
I think what I enjoy the most is that Riley now wears a watch, so I like to imagine he’s all, “DYLAN! Ten more minutes in the hole!”
Knowing you have two boys… I half expected the scroll down… but once it actually sat there in front of me on the screen… that was awesome… LOVE IT!
I can’t stop giggling…..
BWAHAhahahahahahahahahHA
Please tell me this photo is being mounted and framed. That’s mantle worthy right there.
(hysterical laughter aside, you gave them the cave-in-of-death talk, yeah?)
