November 9, 2006

I really enjoyed reading your last great thing comments (I now have a Scum Buster to buy and a box of Snickers ice cream bars to devour) and so did JB; he’s officially convinced he should drop his XM radio in favor of Sirius.

I tried to think of the last great thing I bought for my own self and I think the answer is a “mini-prep” Cuisinart, which was purchased to replace the older, smaller one I broke a while back. Totally not as interesting as your answers, what with your trips to Paris and new kittens and exotic perfumes and chocolate body lotions and all.

Riley appears to have made a speedy recovery, just in time for JB to return from the business trip he was on during Barforama 2006. The man flew to Chicago to have Brazilian barbecue dinners (“More meat on a stick, sir?”) with suit-wearing clients while I was trapped in a House of Barf obsessively googling “vomiting +toddler+should+I+fucking+panic+or+what”, I think he owes me a favor or two. (I can just picture him reading this, nodding his head and raising his eyebrows like the sleazy guy from Office Space [the “O face” guy] and saying, “I’ll give you a favor, baby.” I AM TALKING ABOUT THE BRAND NEW FULLY LOADED INFINITI FX KIND OF FAVOR, JACKHOLE. In black with the tan leather interior, thanks.)

This weekend Riley and I are descending upon my mother and aunt’s house in Port Angeles, where they will doubtlessly immediately regret their cheery invitation once he demonstrates how he can actually shatter glass with his voice, now that he’s a bit older since the last visit. Then again, maybe grandparents see their grandchildren through eternal rose-colored glasses; JB’s mom sure goes on and on about how Riley’s such a “good, sweet kid” and I have caught myself thinking, wait, are you talking about THIS KID RIGHT HERE? Don’t get me wrong, I’d take a bullet for him even on a bad day, but are you talking about the kid who is currently going apoplectic over the existence of carseat restraints? You must mean sweet like a lemon.

(Actually, now that I think about it Riley’s usually on better behavior when there are lots of people around, I think he enjoys the activity and attention and is less likely to burst into actual flames over a dropped toy. This is a rule with no guarantees, however, considering that he recently chose a crowded Fred Meyers to protest at top volume the great injustice of socks.)

So tomorrow we’ll be taking the ferry (the ferry, not the ferry boat as they repeatedly and annoyingly say on Grey’s Anatomy, it’s a goddamn ferry, saying ferry boat is like saying car vehicle; ferry ferry ferry ferry!) over to Kingston and driving up the peninsula; I’m looking forward to getting the hell out of Dodge for a while.

JB will be spending his own weekend shooting at innocent, moist-eyed Bambi-esque woodland creatures in Oregon. God help me, I actually encouraged this activity because he doesn’t get to spend much time with the Menfolk wearing their Hickory Shirts and Crapping in the Woods Wherever They Damn Well Please. Of course, that was before the Barf-fest so I hope he brings me back something purty. Like an Infiniti, not a fucking elk pelt.

If you’re not sick of me asking, and I totally understand if you are, what are your own plans?

I am going to a friend’s evening wedding on Saturday. It is at a nice (I think) hotel in Downtown Seattle. Plus I traded shifts with another nurse so I don’t have to work on Sunday and I will be able to sleep in. Luxury!!!!! I bought a new outfit yesterday and it is actually pretty comfortable and I got my hair cut today (it had been over 7 months) and so I will look snazzy. :)

Oh! And when they said “Ferry boat” on Grey’s Anatomy I immediately thought of a little kid saying something like “choo-choo train” – it sounds silly from an adult and VERY un-Seattle-like! Ferry boat, indeed!

I am going to be reading about exorcisms all weekend. Not as exciting as you would think at first. It gets a little old around the 10 billionth time you’ve had to copy out an exorcism for salt. I will, however, make time for bad movies – my favourite kind!

I’m going up to Fort Bragg (with my last $20 till payday!) to visit some friends. Hopefully they will feed me.

And, if you REALLY want JB to do you a favor, have him buy you my ’72 Mini Cooper — I just can’t afford to own it anymore, and I think you would probably give it a good home. Of course, if anyone hit you while you were driving it, you would disintegrate, but, um … yeeeah. It’s a great car!

God. I just can’t help myself. I SHOULD, but I can’t I’m one of those people who just has to know (and announce) for myself… I’m apologizing now because I can’t seem to resist typing this and I know I can’t resist hitting the wonderful little button to post. And I have lived in Seattle, and I know everyone calls it the ferry but… but… but…

Ferry – to move something across a body of water.

Ferryboat – the way in which to move a person or thing across a body of water.

Yeah. It’s actually Ferryboat. My anal retentive ass is going to go get a glass of wine now.

Tomorrow I’m going to sleep in, make myself a nice breakfast, go shopping for all the things my husband hates to shop for, then I have a 4 o’clock baby shower to attend in my honor. Saturday begins the great house clean-up, as my dear husband has just deployed on a submarine for 11 weeks and I’ve been waiting for him to leave before I pick up his stuff. Sunday, church- and then a “purse party” complete with coach and kate spade wanna-be purses to buy. Yes, I will worship Jesus and purchase illegally manufactured fake purses on the same day. I may go to hell, but I’ll have a nice handbag.

Lots of laziness.

We may have tickets for the VT/Kent State football game on Saturday. Otherwise, I will spend a lot of time sitting on the couch watching college and pro football and obsessing over my fantasy teams.

And my husband will probably make me spend at least an hour outside raking leaves. Boo, hiss.

If JB does happen to bring you home a fucking elk pelt, will you please post pictures of it? Even just to make fun of? ‘Cause I’m sort of (read:completely) into that, and I’d love to see one!

Saturday is a day for pure laziness, Sunday we’re going to my parents’ for dinner and a lil birthday celebration for my mom. Nothing exciting. No glass-breaking screams or dead deer for me this weekend.

Driving from Chicago to Detroit on Friday afternoon, then back on Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, the Saturday journey will end at a party with lots of beer, which I will desperately need after spending 10 hours in a car in two days.

Sitting comfortably on my ever-expanding ass, and completely avoiding everything else I should be doing. That’s what I’m doing this weekend.

The baby barf thing? Nightmare inducing. I’ve gone through several bouts with it with Aislinn during various ages and stages, though the baby has yet to be afflicted.

Sundry is right. “Ferryboat” may be a legitimate word for the boat used to ferry, but the definitions under “ferry” include “ferryboat” as well as a long definition that includes the entire operation of boats, service, terminals, etc., and also “to go on a ferry”–so even in the definition they call it a ferry, not a ferryboat.

Even if it were technically correct to call it “a ferryboat,” it’s still dorky, and also colloquially wrong. And, as it turns out, “ferryboat” being technically correct doesn’t mean “ferry” is NOT technically correct.

I am in a wedding on Saturday. The bride’s a dear (though I think I may have been demoted from the position of maid-of-honor (because it is, after all, totally a contest of who’s the better friend) because one of the other bridesmaids wanted to walk down with her husband (who is the best man) and all these parenthesis and drama make my head hurt), but I hate the prep for a wedding. AndI had to go buy a new straples bra, and with all the multitude of clasps and the turning around of it while still wearing of it and when that didn’t work, i tried pull it over my head and I think I hurt my shoulder. Oh, and when I went tanning so I didn’t blind everyone walking down the isle, I think I laid wrong or something, because i now have a white stripe down the middle of my back. I have no idea how it happend. And it’s my special time

But, there weill be friends there I haven’t seen in a long time, and there will be dancing and good time will be had by all. Plus, the dresses are pretty and I will get to drink champagne.

The only certain thing about my weekend plans is working on Saturday. Everything else is still up in the air, so…

I do have a question, though. I use Internet Explorer (welcome to the dark ages!) because my mouse sucks and is incompatible with Firefox (I can’t scroll, which drives me INSANE). In Firefox? The site looks great, just the way it always did.
In IE, it looks like plain text on a white background with links. That’s all I get (well, photos work too). It was working fine in IE, but I’ve noticed this for a few entries– no one else seems to be mentioning it, so maybe I’m the only person who still uses it? Oh, the shame.

I just wondered if there was some magical internet wand you could wave so it look good again… it’s a major pain to switch to firefox to read your blog, and then I am once more infuriated by my inability to scroll.

Chloe

… and now it looks fine again. Maybe I’m going crazy? I’m SO CONFUSED!

I am actually going to meet another fellow blogger, whom I adore, on Saturday, and beyond that, I can’t think of much else, for it will likely involve steam cleaning and maybe some picking up of dog poop and preparation for the massive onslaught of in-laws for the week of Thanksgiving in a little more than a week. No one said my life wasn’t exciting.

I hope you have a great time on the ferry (boat)! And let’s all thank Christ that Riley is feeling better. Phew.

*I just noticed that Lawyerish, my date on Saturday, commented above. I am going to try not to be as socially awkward as I am normally capable of being. Thinking smooth thoughts until then. SMOOOTH.

We have a three day weekend here; tomorrow is a movie with our Cub Scout den at 10 am, then lots of looking at housework that needs to be done and rationalizing it by promising to do it tomorrow (you know, like I’ve been doing ALL WEEK). Saturday is my birthday so Jr and Hubby will be baking me either cupcakes or a full on cake, thus meeting another Cub Scout requirement and ensuring that I will never lose more than 10 lbs EVER. Sunday will busy even though soccer has ended until Spring: church, including a party for the kids in Children’s Church, then our Cub Scout Den will march in our local Veteran’s Day Parade. Then at 6 pm it’s Children’s Choir. After that I shall promptly collapse.

Sat. morning my husband is getting up early to go dirt biking with the menfolk so they can practice for the race on Sunday that they will be taking part in. I plan to sleep in, lounge around, maybe get a pedicure?? Then I’m helping my buddy Kevin sell tickets for a soccer game in the afternoon. Then Saturday night my husband and I have a dinner to go to for ICSCC (International Conference of Sports Car Clubs *i think) so my hubby can accept his award for winning the Sport BMW conference club championship, blah that’s a lot of words :) Plus I love how they want you go come to collect your trophy and praise etc. but they charge you $80. a stinking plate for it :| What’s that about? Sunday is the dirt bike race. I think *hope* that’s it. :) -h

MovieFest 2006: Netflix just delivered “Cars” and “The Wild” and maybe we’ll watch “Over the Hedge” again because it was just too dang funny. Saturday the hubby is going steelhead fishing. I’d go, but the thought of 40-ish degrees on a rainy day in a drift boat while pregnant doesn’t sound appealing to me. I’m using the excuse that I just can’t fit into my waders. Think I might just veg out watching season two of Grey’s Anatomy while trying not to get annoyed about the whole “ferryboat” thing. Basically, I’m traveling for work all next week, so I’m not going to do anything. Whee!

I’ve got tomorrow off work so it’s a ‘me’ day. I’m getting a pedicure and leg wax in the morning and then more waxing will be done later that day in places that make my boyfriend love me more. After that I’m getting my hair cut and I’ll probably dye it too!

I might fly down to Los Angeles with my boyfriend to visit his mum and have some Apple Pan burgers. Sweet Jesus, Apple Pan burgers! If you’re ever in SoCal and you find yourself lacking in products to pimp on Sundrybuzz, visit the Apple Pan. It will free you and give you great material for Sundrybuzz as I’m sure you have lots of SoCal readers.

Then I’m coming back to San Francisco to see the U.S. premier of Edward Scissorhands (can’t fucking wait because I love ALL THINGS associate with Tim Burton) with my friend who works at the San Francisco zoo and always has some great stories involving animals. I always ask him really stupid Borat style questions about his work experiences and he always makes up fantastic answers. We have great conversations, except nothing we say is really meant seriously. I love those kinds of friendships.

Sunday I’m cleaning. I’m extremely tempted to go out and buy a magic eraser and a scumbuster in order to increase my cleaning motivation.

We are going to my in-laws for a Brunswick Stew. This stuff has chicken, pork, and beef in it, along with lima beans, corn, potatoes, onions, and tomatoes. Except all the veggies are mushed up before being added, which makes the stew look like, well, something you’ve written a lot about recently. It tastes OK but is one of those things that after you make it, you must shower immediately because you realize you reek. It must be a southern thing. To which I say, WTF?

We have a babysitter for three whole hours Saturday afternoon, so we’re going to our favorite place for brunch to celebrate our six (!) year wedding anniversary. And then we are going to have a nice big party at our house.
Oh, and yes, ferry, not ferry boat. That shall be filed under other Grey’s Anatomy Seattle anomalies, such as how Meredith, who appears to live in Capitol Hill, can jog to a park and run into Derek and the dog taking a walk, even though he has to take the ferry to get to Seattle. I can’t believe I just wrote that. I apologize for being so incredibly anal, and also obsessed with that stupid show to even recognize these things.

On Saturday, I will clean the house, then we’ll attend our daughter’s cross country banquet. On Sunday, we will drag our son’s ass out of bed so he can go to work and the rest of us will go to church so our daughter can fulfill her confirmation requirements. I hope we put handles on the dresser drawers so we can bring the dresser (which we’ve been refinishing since July) up from the basement to our bedroom. I will promptly and happily empty the shoe boxes and Target bags in which I’ve been storing my clothing. I also plan to put garland and lights on the porch railings if the weather cooperates. While my husband obsesses over Sunday Night Football, I will try to watch the Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives.

I am in Australia for the weekend: I’ve been shopping all day and am on my way to see some big huge kill-you-so-much-as-look-at-you sharks. Tonight is a bellydance show, tomorrow is a bellydance workshop (and more shopping) and seeing a band, and Sunday is MORE SHOPPING (kill me now) before I head back to Welly. It is super sunny and nice here: after an extra three months of winter I feel almost drunk with vitamin D.

Out for tea with the boyfriend tonight, hopefully somewhere we haven’t tried from our ‘entertainment book’- a handy way to try some different (and flasher) places, most places are buy 1 main, get 1 free – yah! (hopefully that doesn’t make me sound like a real cheapass). Sleeping in both days, haircut on Saturday, usual domestic chores as well at some point…

Good choice with the infiniti fx, looks scrummy!

Enjoy your weekend :)

We are going to my husband’s dad’s house Saturday night in Ft. Worth. Not earth shattering, but it is always nice to hang out with family. Sunday we have to run (training for 1/2 marathon) and are supposed to be up to 2 hours – haha…hohoho, oh bloody hell, we are so behind. Sunday night is dinner with the neighbors – which I am so excited about – as we are friendless and it feels like a date or something.

So – to recap: in-laws, dinner, running. Whee.

Does elk taste less ass-y than venison? Bambi may be cute, but she tastes like shit. I keep hoping my husband will find time to go on a boar hunt. Mmmm bacon.

Well, tonight, I am going on a FERRY. To celebrate the end of my course, or something – its course related and paid for with our student union fees. I haven’t washed my hair in forever so I feel ick, but it seems pointless to wash it and go through the hassle of drying/straightening (TAKES 2 HOURS WITH MY HAIR, THE THICKEST HAIR KNOWN TO MAN) before going on a boat where I’ll probably fall overboard or something.

Tomorrow, I am blissfully doing nothing. Sunday, I am blissfully doing nothing.

My trainer made the mistake of telling me you can get all of your weekly exercise in one fell swoop and still be ok, so since I haven’t so much as lifted a finger this week, this is the workout weekend from hell. I’ll be doing an hour and forty-five minutes tomorrow, then again on saturday. I’m also preparing a presentation for a class, teaching a doctrine class at church, and generally eating as much ice cream as I can get my hands on. Wish me luck!

Tomorrow night I am going with my friend to a concert and maybe having a couple of drinks. The rest of the weekend? Guitar Hero II, World of Warcraft, and maybe some writing (I’ve got a cool idea for a story. I never write fiction, but I want to more, so I’m going to give it a go.)

I think this weekend will be the one where I commence the freaking out that we’re hosting both of our families for Thanksgiving at our still-chaotic place. Eek. I need to practice the whole cinnamon-in-a-stovepot fragrance thingy so when I need to use it I won’t mess it up.

I used to live in Brazil. I laugh at Brazilian steakhouses, because I remember going to real ones when I was 14 & being shocked at the meat-on-a-stick thing. I want to go to one here & take my husband.

My big plans are to buy a new wedding band, go grocery shopping at the farmer’s market (we have no vegetables!), maybe make a pot roast, and maybe write some more for NaNoWriMo. I dunno, I’m just not feeling the fiction vibe.

Let’s see, tomorrow and Sunday will mimic each other: I will be on a boat in the Pacific training for my new job swimming with Dolphins. Go, me.

Saturday is blissfully wide open at the moment–perhaps I will explore a new beach, perhaps I will watch the latest Netflix arrivals (RV and Spellbound), perhaps I will get some laundry and grocery shopping done, perhaps I will wash my car, perhaps I will read my library books, perhaps I will sleep all day. The possibilities are endless. And excruciatingly exciting.

Well, I SHOULD complete felting the shed roof that I didn’t get finished last weekend, but heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the next couple of days days so it looks like that won’t happen. (If you think it rains a lot in Seattle you should come to Ireland!). Last week included the birth of my brother’s first grandchild (and my parents’ first great-grandchild) and the funeral of my wife’s uncle. It’s possible we’ll take the trip to see the new baby boy. Hopefully I’ll also be able to take in watching Ireland’s first autumn rugby international against South Africa on TV.

Oh My God. I’m so glad you asked because it’s all I can talk about. I’m running my first EVER half-marathon. The one I’ve been training for (kinda). After months of races (3 5Ks) and long runs (every Saturday or Sunday) I have had perfect weather every time. It has never been too cold or rainy. But tomorrow? The forecast is cold AND rainy and I don’t think I’m going to make it because I’m a wuss.

So, my plan is a half-marathon. Let’s hope it actually happens.

We’re buying glasses for my 2yr old. He’s got a temporary vision problem (slightly crossed eyes due to farsightedness) that needs glasses to solve (or else we move up to a patch and start dressing him like a pirate). Problem is he’s the kind of kid that HAAAATES anything on his head. Hates with the fury of a thousand cats having their tails stepped on. We’ve never been able to keep hats on his head; hoods are viciously yanked off, sunglasses are a joke. It’s not like he’s old enough to bribe, either. I know, I’ve tried.
