Okay, if you had a 7 AM flight tomorrow morning and your iPod was smelling a little…not so fresh, what would you buy from iTunes tonight? The last things I downloaded were Snow Patrol, Imogen Heap, old They Might Be Giants, Nellie McKay, Ok Go, The Sounds, and Keane, to give you some vague sense of context for what I like (basically, anything except for super-twangy country).

Also, some images I’ve been uploading to Flickr lately:

From the Seahawks game last night that JB and Joe went to. MAN they had great seats, and it was a great game, too. I don’t even care about football and I’m pissed I didn’t get to go.

The Boy, being cute.

The Boy, being kind of a miserable S.O.B about wearing a raincoat. (But it was a green raincoat with a frog on it! Does he not understand the cuteness factor here? GOD.)

This is how Riley dances: by doing a bunch of deep knee bends. If only he’d learn to kick, too, so we could get some hot Russian squat-dance action going.

Heh. Stare all you want, bucko, that spoon trick only worked in the Matrix.

I just talked to my coworker who is already in San Francisco, and on his direct flight from Seattle to SF, the same flight I’ll be on tomorrow, the airline managed to lose his luggage. I am currently in the midst of defying the laws of physics to cram everything I need for a week of tradeshow mania into one small bag, which I had planned on checking (because do I travel with millions of bottles of various unguents, all of which are now banned from carryons? YES I DO), and if this thing gets lost…well, I’ll be the girl at Macworld with no extra clothes, no toiletries, and no deodorant. In other words, I’ll fit right in.

(Dear United: that statement was in no way meant to tempt you to send my suitcase hurtling into a black hole, never to return. If I am separated from my hairdryer for more than 24 hours I break out in giant hives, so please…think of the children.)

I’m a little late but if no one has recommended Chutes too Narrow by the Shins (and you don’t already have it) I HIGHLY recommend it. I love their first album but Chutes too Narrow really blew me away.

Oh, Linda, you’ve already left Washington for Macworld and I hope your luggage made it to you safely. I’ve actually been sitting here writing down with pen-and-paper all the recommendations here because I am THAT MUCH of a whore for music recommendations. Especially since so many of the artists you mentioned in your original post are already in my iPod. Did you know you have probably 7 votes for Regina Spektor here? I’ve never heard of her; I’m going there first on iTunes. The next runner-up is Tegan and Sara, and I’m doubtful just because of the name, but then again I LOVE Belle and Sebastian, so why should I judge?

For my own recommendations, right now I totally LOVE Pete Yorn, KT Tunstall, OKGo, Under the Influence of Giants, The Subways, Snow Patrol, Death Cab, The Shins…

How about some singles? Here’s what I’ve most recently downloaded.
“First Day of My Life” Bright Eyes
“Homesick” Kings of Convenience
“Wrapped Up In Books” Belle & Sebastian
“Phantom Limb” The Shins
“Run” Snow Patrol (I know you already have them, but this song is older and I almost missed it until I heard it at Deck the Hall Ball)
“The New Year” Death Cab
“Stitched Up” Herbie Hancock f/ John Mayer

My three-year old daughter LOVES Dashboard Confessional’s “Don’t Wait.” So there. Maybe one for Riley?

I really, really hope this helps you as much as all the recommendations will (hopefully) help me!

Lisa

PS Want the list I made? I’ll be glad to send it to ya!

This is too late for your trip, but for future reference, I highly recommend Regina Spektor, Lily Allen for some British quirk, and soundtracks. Soundtracks are your best friend.

Oh yeah, The OC’s soundtracks are great.

Do not mock my love for The OC.

Better Than Ezra is a wonderful band that is local to New Orleans, but their stuff is available on iTunes. Anything by them is wonderful, even newer stuff.

I would also recommend Regina Spektor and stuff from Damien Rice’s new album, 9. Especially the song “9 Crimes”. Also anything by Rilo Kiley is good stuff.

Everybody else probably beat me to it, but I love em. :)

Almost forgot – another great band is Von Bondies. And if you are into instrumental music, Lucia Micarelli is absolutely gorgeous.

Even though you’re already there [good luck], I suppose it’s never too late to add to a good music collection.

the Eels have provided the soundtrack to my life for the past year of so, esp. Electro-Shock Blues and Daises of the Galaxy

I suck, I don’t know any of your music. Right now I’m obsessed with the new (not yet out) Shins album, I think some tunes are available on iTunes…. The newest Yo La Tengo album is really good, too. Mirah is what I’m listening to right now, I love her voice, and for cool voices Cat Power is another really good one. Also on tonight’s playlist are Andrew Bird, Calexico, Low, M. Ward, and The Decemberists (though I don’t recommend the newer M. Ward or Decemberists albums, I prefer their old stuff). I hope your stuff all arrives in San Francisco safely at the same time as you arrive!!

I might be too late, but here are my suggestions for the future. It seems like I have very similar taste to you. Here’s my most recent playlist:
(I basically just download the most popular songs b/c I’m lazy and easily influenced like that)

Joshua Radin, Lily Allen, Regina Spektor, 8mm, Ray LaMontagne, Sufjan Stevens, Jem, Jamie Cullum, Five for Fighting, Neutral Milk Hotel, Gary Jules, Amos Lee, Pedro the Lion, Tegan and Sara, Phoenix, Midlake, Rocco Deluca and the Burden, Jeff Buckley.

You don’t re-spawn somewhere else with your awesome gun, the vehicle
you spent months repairing, or all of the food you managed to scrounge up in the
abandoned shops. ” If one have been to think about the number of apps obtainable on i – Pod, they’d seemingly by no means get to the end of it all. Win – RAR for instance offers the “extract here” option, which will simply extract the contents of a zip file to it’s current directory.
