If you’re enjoying some much-deserved downtime right about now, may I intrude upon your peace and quiet with a laborious blog questionnaire? Hey, I figure if I have to suffer through it (thanks to my ill-advised adoption of this thing as a yearly ritual: behold, my thrilling end-of-year thoughts on 2004, 2005, and 2006), you should too. I mean, only if you want to. (DO IT, DO IT NOW.)
I’ll post my answers in the next few days, and if you give me the link to your own responses (via the comments or by email) I’ll link to your entry as well. Here are the questions:
1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
4. Did anyone close to you die?
5. What countries did you visit?

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I’ll play!
http://orangepeacock.vox.com/library/post/2007-in-retrospect.html
[…] Time for Linda’s annual year-end wrap up. I’ve played along for the last three years because this time of year I find myself struggling to come up with things to post about. Please, feel free to join in the fun. All the cool kids are doing it. […]
1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? Began raising a toddler, drove from NJ to SC with that crazy toddler, and went to Turks and Caicos sans toddler. :)
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I seriously can’t remember what my resolutions were! Not sure I will make any real resolutions.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? yes – my sister-in-law had her third little girl.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Thankfully no.
5. What countries did you visit? Mostly US, except for the little jaunt to Turks and Caicos.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007? Some more sanity, be less insecure about myself and mothering, and a good babysitter so my husband and I can have more alone time together.
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 2/13/07 – my daughter’s first birthday. 12/27/07 – found out we are having a boy during my 20 week ultrasound.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Buying a home and hopefully being good at managing a family.
9. What was your biggest failure? Not giving myself some time to work on non-mommy, non-house related things. Like writing and other creative things I like to do.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Again thankfully no.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Our house.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? My mother’s – she’s a saint for taking back someone who seriously violated her trust. My husband deserves the world for all of the time spent at work and travelling for work – away from family to give us a great life.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? My stepfather’s behavior appalled me. Seeing some friends so stuck was and is depressing – long story.
14. Where did most of your money go? Oy, into the house we bought.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The ultrasound results. And a lot of the cute everyday stuff my little girl does.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007? Not 100% sure but, please don’t laugh too hard, I can’t get “Apologize” by Timbaland out of my head. Have spent a lot of time in the car lately listening to the radio.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer? I am happier because I’m a little more sure of myself, fatter because I’m pregnant, and both richer and poorer. Life is very good right now even though we made some serious financial commitments.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Traveling to more unusual places. We did plenty of traveling but just not all that we might have done in the past. Wish I had been more creative.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Complaining, worrying, fighting with my husband over stuff we were worrying about.
20. How did you spend Christmas? Running around to visit family but we did spend some special morning time at our house opening presents from Santa.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007? Yes – many times with my husband and my daughter. And with my new little growing boy inside me.
22. What was your favorite TV program? Liked a lot but favorite was Californication.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? no.
24. What was the best book you read? A Thousand Spendid Suns
25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Hmmmm, I have been slacking on that this year – spent a lot of time listening to kids stuff and my favorite is the Lisa Loeb “Catch the Moon” cd/book. All the songs are good but “New Morning” is my favorite.
26. What did you want and get? A new house
27. What did you want and not get? More time for myself and my husband but that’s okay for now.
28. What was your favorite film of this year? I was slacking on this as well for 2007 – not sure. Watched a lot of on demand and dvds.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was 32 and spent the day with my daughter at the Central Park Zoo. It was fantastic.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If my husband quit his job to start his own business – but that would require a lot more money in our pockets. Win the lottery?
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007? On a rare but good day – Hot Manhattan Mom, in general – whatever this newly suburban mom can find that matches and is somewhat clean.
32. What kept you sane? My husband and some good books.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Jake Gyllenhall and McSteamy
34. What political issue stirred you the most? The war in Iraq, terrorism/national security.

What a great list of questions. Happy New Year.
[…] Not that 2007 was bad; Quite the opposite, actually. It was a year of much-needed discovery, of gaining precious self-respect. I took a long while to think about it. And I did a meme from one of my favourite bloggers – many of my answers are a little boring, if you ask me, so I’m just posting a sample: […]
[…] Hey, look. I stole this meme from Jennie at She Likes Purple. I’m a stealer. Of ideas. But I like her! (I like you! You’re funny! And seem genuine!) And this meme apparently originated at sundry mourning, so it isn’t like I’m plagarizing or anything. And … is a meme ever really “stolen?” I mean, the whole purpose is like those chain emails that get sent out. What’s the last thing you ate? What’s your favorite color? Who is least likely to respond to this email? (hint: that would be ME.) […]
