Back in September when we brought Callie the Cat home from the Humane Society, she was wildly affectionate and sweet-natured. She curled up in our laps, slithered all over our laptops when we were trying to work, and constantly wound between our feet, purring.
That lasted for about a couple weeks.
Whether she was just trying to make sure we didn’t immediately toss her back into cat jail or her true nature just took a while to finally surface, it soon became clear that our new pet wasn’t exactly the purely loving creature we thought she was. She still tolerates being cuddled, but she’s basically turned into Cato in the Pink Panther movies. Her job these days is to keep us on our toes, whether by sneak attack, intimidating lurking, or flat-out disdain.
A while ago I started snapping photos of her sparkling personality and posting them on Instagram, and before I knew it I’d built up quite the collection of GAHH! cat images:
I mean, honestly. That kind of cat will fuck up your namaste something fierce.
Still, I think I like her even more for having such a judgmental evil streak. She’s a hoot, at least when she’s not darting out from under the bed and sinking her fangs into our ankles.
I have, however, started keeping the door shut when I take a bath at night.

GAH! Creepy kitty, indeed!
(And, um, we have the same throw pillows on our sofa as you do on your bed. Or you brought your cat to my house to take creepy kitty photos. I’m hoping it’s the former…)

As a creepy aside, where did you get your white nightstand side table? It’s sort of exactly what I’m looking for (I did not realize how damn hard finding good nightstands would be).
The one where she’s peeking around that metal thing is the creepiest! What a cat.
That is one serious creepster. It one picture it looks like you’re hiding in the closet from her and she creepily found you. I’ve noticed when my cat grabs at my feet, she just wants to play string.
Aw, she’s so cute and bad-ass at the same time. Give me a cat with a personality any day. She’s awesome.

That’s hilarious…we’ve got one of those cats too, peering around corners at you. Her favorite game is to wait until my boyfriend is shaving and sneak up behind him and bite his leg. Needless to say, he’s not a fan.
I think my favorite is the one where she’s sitting outside with the corner of the couch in the middle of her face. That or the judgmental table shot.

When my elderly ladycat gets all creepy like that, I’m convinced she’s trying to mind-control me. Refilling the food bowl is the only thing that will make her stop, so there may be some truth to it.

I’ve told you this 100 times, but I love the GAH photos so much. She and Chica/Thomas are long lost twins.
(My kids STILL talk about your GAH photos, after showing them a week ago, and they all got the giggles at this post.)
The personality about face is actually fairly common among shelter animals.
Thirteen and a half years ago, we rescued a bedraggled corgi mix with pleading eyes from doggie death row. She was infested with every parasite known to man (both internal and external)and had a raging case of kennel cough. She was so timid and sweet. By the time she was ‘cured’ all hell had broken loose.
Thirteen years later, she’s STILL a nut. We can’t take her to the dog park (even at her advanced age she picks fights) and we’ve long since given up all hope of ever having a normal dog. She had ONE doggie friend and he passed away two years ago. Thank God her sight and hearing are going and she doesn’t freak out nearly as much as she used to.
She is beautiful!
Also I snorted at work trying to keep myself from laughing out loud at these pictures. I agree with whoever up there said it should be a coffee table book.
Just wanted to say…these are rad photos, I actually hooted out loud. Love the one of her sitting at the table. Also…you have the best blog. Love every single post. Your writing is awesome and your pictures are always super. You’ve probably posted this info before, but…What kind of a camera/ editing software do you use? Callie is too cute. It reminds me of that clown in the commercial that the people need to send back. These pictures are hilarious.

It looks like she’s got a lot of Maine Coon in her. Maine Coons are hunters. Maybe some play time (with mouse, ball, whatever) would fulfill her need for hunting and she’d stop with the creepy stalking thing.
I love cats… i think their purpose in life it to let us know we’re not as on top of things as we think. She is wonderful! Maybe wear those soccer shin pads around the house or something…

I was so glad to hear how sweet she was when you brought her home. My first thought was – oh shit, crazy calico! We had a calico cat that was way evil. I brought a new young cat into the house, and she hated her with a passion. One time my friend was housesitting, and when we returned, she told me how terrified she was of the calico. Late at night, she would trot down the hallway, start running and gathering steam to hurl herself at the closed bedroom door that was protecting the new cat. We loved her, but man was she nuts. Ummm, I’m sure your cat will get sweet again with age??

I seriously love this!! We have a cat that is #1 huge and #2 mean as hell! Hes all purrs and cuddles to us but when people who dont live here come in, he is a total beast. I kinda love that hes so ornery.. Hes my watchcat, especially since my dog is a wimp! The only problem i see with it is that if there ever came a time that we would need to find him a new home, no one would take him!
Whoa. I have my own cat stalkers, but that first photo gave me pause. Some serious cat karma going on there; eeeek!
(On a side note; did you know that squeezing eyes shut or nearly shut is apparently a cat “kiss”… a sign of trust and affection? one lovey-dovey book I have said to return it to your cat and see what they do. Does she do that to you? Maybe this is all adoration?
