One of our very favorite places to go is the Rogue River in southwestern Oregon. It was in 2010 that JB and I were on the river trail and said, this is it. We have to move. We have to get closer to all this. We camped there last summer, and it felt a million miles from Seattle. In a good way while we were there, of course, and in a sad, frustrating way once we were home.
It used to take us about nine hours to get to Galice, where the wild section of the Rogue starts. Now it takes 2.5.
We drove there last weekend, camped for two nights, and came home on Sunday. Easy-peasy. We can do this any time.
Beautiful. All of it. So happy for you!
What fun – congratulations for making your dream come true!
yay! My husband and I met while working at Galice. Love that you enjoy this area as much as we do. Kinda nerdy. but I have to tell you I’ve been reading since Riley was born (same age as my son) and have you to thank for my crossfit addiction. Hope you got some Dutch Love while you were here.
Yea! So happy for you!
It makes me so happy that you and your family are finally where you want to be!
You have always inspired me and I’m so happy you are where you are!
I don’t know you, but your happiness is palpable. Really glad you are where you want to be. I’m about to move into a house with a yard (vs our current too small super urban townhome with 2 bedrooms and two children who do not share a room well OMFG) and I can’t wait to feel what you’ve been feeling. Your excitement just feeds my excitement.
All four of you have looks of peace on your faces. Beautiful.
You all look SO happy. It’s awesome.
You guys look like you’ve gotten younger! Or maybe it’s just massive amounts of stress being shed. Either way, you look great.
Awesome!! So happy you all found your happiness.
It is so wonderful to read about how your dreams are coming true. I am so glad you and your family were able to make this change. So so very happy for you.
Damn Linda, you guys all look so HAPPY (and also young and carefree). I’m so glad you were able to make this happen for your family.
You guys look so happy!! And relaxed!! I am so full of envy!!
I’m not one to really be jealous of other peoples’ lives, but of yours, I certainly am! It is beautiful there.
I’ve been reading you since that night we hung out at Austin JournalCon. To see where you are now is nothing but inspiration for me. Congratulations, and may the happiness you share with your family only continue to grow through days of great health, happiness and prosperity.
Awesome,so awesome.
I thought that what was wrong with me is that I am getting divorced, and feel like everything is off. After looking at these pictures, I know that it’s not that, it’s that I need to get out in the woods. Duh.
It is gorgeous there and I am oh so jealous of the view!!!!
Isn’t it a great feeling when you see your kids growing up with the lifestyle you dreamed they would have? I felt that way the moment my two year old jumped out of the car at her first camping trip and just started rolling around in the dirt. I knew we were “home”, lol. I grew up in the sf bay area, but spent every summer up in the Sierras, and that is where I feel I am from.
Oh, so happy for you guys! I have to admit, I was a little sad when you first moved, knowing that I was going to have to give up my fantasy of running into you at Alki someday. Seeing how much you love your life in Oregon, makes the loss of that fantasy completely worthwhile! You guys look fantastic, and your posts and tweets just seem…lighter, I guess, less worried, less burdened. You are such a poster girl for following your dreams–congratulations on making your life the life you want.
I have been reading you forever it seems and I’m so, so, sooooo incredibly happy that you are all moved, less stressed and so happy.
See that green right over there>>> that’s me. being jealous. However, I am also truly happy that you guys are living your dream. Yay for shorter trips to paradise!
Aw, look how chill you both look in that last photo. This is great. Congrats again.
My heart just sings for you! I am loving watching your new life unfold.
Amazing!!
My parents lived in Gold Beach (at the mouth of the Rogue) and we used to make the drive from Seattle two or three times a year until my dad passed away and my mom moved up here. I love that area of the world, and I am so happy seeing you happy there. You guys worked so hard to make this dream come true, and you deserve all you’ve received!
I LOVE the fishing pictures!!
You are giving your boys some of the BEST memories!
I am more of a lurker than a commenter, but I want to say that I am so very happy for you. It is great to read about how well your family is doing, and I hope you thrive in your new home!
Living your dream is an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing this.
After 12 years experiencing the same let down of returning home to Seattle after our glorious OR Coast trip, we decided to do something about it.
Though it’s not been a perfect move, it sure beats the alternative.
And I’m glad as hell we did it.
Now >1hr. from Florence.
Whenever we feel like it.
