Oh hi there, it’s ME AGAIN, just doing the blog equivalent of blathering nervously out loud while I drum my fingers, chew my bottom lip, and that annoying sound from 24 plays in my head: tink . . . tink . . .
I thought there was a good chance I’d get ushered over to Labor & Delivery today, since they had me scheduled for another blood pressure test at 10 AM and hey, you know one thing that I bet sends people’s blood pressure skyrocketing, it’s knowing that the results of the test could send you straight to the operating room, but no, everything was totally fine. Whew, I guess. Except truthfully I was sort of hoping we might just get the ball rolling instead of waiting all weekend and getting progressively more FREAKED THE HELL OUT.
I have now packed my hospital bag twice, so by Monday I should have this whole routine down cold and will have have strategized the right amount of stuff to bring. Camera battery: yes; two different kinds of perfume: no.
A nurse presented me with some sort of hardcore antibacterial soap and instructed me to wash from the neck down on both Sunday night and Monday morning, then she paused, perhaps assessing my intellect and finding it lacking, and told me not to use it in my hair (duh) or inside my lady parts (no KIDDING, really? Because I was planning to really have a go at myself with a turkey baster and maybe a Magic Eraser). She also reminded me not to shave my own belly, an activity which I had not considered but once she mentioned it I instantly started wondering who would need to do so and just how thick and luxurious their belly-pelt might be.
Aside from any last-minute labor shenanigans, we’re now supposed to show up at the hospital at 6 AM on Monday, at which point we’ll probably sit around in some bleak-ass waiting room for about a thousand hours while I get progressively more despondent about that whole no eating past midnight pre-op thing. I’ll post something on Sunday about where/when you might find some baby news on Monday, stay tuned.
So tell me (DISTRACT ME), what are your plans for the weekend? Are you doing anything in particular for the Superbowl? Me, I don’t much care about the teams playing, but it seems like a fine excuse for eating a bowl of nachos the size of my head.
Today we’re going to see Kimya Dawson at Music Millenium (we live in Portland) and then maybe to see a movie. This is Spinal Tap is playing at the Laurelhurst, so we’re torn between that and Michael Clayton at the Broadway (where you mentioned you used to work, I think!) and then maybe come home and play Phase 10 (card game) because it’s raining too much to be sprinting from bus to bus all night.
Sorry for the unbridled enthusiasm, have had too much coffee and this weekend took forever to get here.
For the game there will be a fire in the fireplace, brats on the grill and plenty of cold beer.
SO EXCITED FOR YOU! *ahem* okay, distracting you. Right.
Well, my weekend has so far included a massage, a visit from an out-of-town friend, and an amusingly drunken husband (okay, that wasn’t planned, but it was adorable). Tonight we are going out for dinner and a movie, because being 6 months pregnant I too hear the clock ticking – the clock saying “I don’t care how crappy the weather is or how tired you are, in three more months you will want NOTHING more than to go out for dinner and a movie and you WON’T BE ABLE TO, so get your ass off the couch and go do it NOW.” Obey the clock…
Oh, and I couldn’t care less about the Superbowl.
Good luck Monday!
My little corner store didn’t have corn chips. Sigh. I’m spending my weekend working on a paper.
I’m organizing my computer’s desktop, I KNOW daydreaming about that will keep you entertained for hours. The intro to this post freaked me out because I thought “Oh hi there, it’s ME AGAIN” said: “Oh hi there MEAGAN.” Weird. Good luck, best wishes, I’m sure everything will go fine.
No Superbowl in New Zealand…just sad over the fact that a year ago I DID get to watch the Superbowl in LA. Waa!
I went to see Barack Obama. And then made a chicken pot pie.
Another New Zealander here. As Jem said, no Superbowl over our way but I just wanted to wish YOU a whole heap of positive c-section vibes.
I had an elective in October last year (had another boy:) and I found waiting around to have a kid so strange and surreal. You get into the car and drive to the hospital to have a baby without being in labour? Felt so weird~!
Anwho, all the very best mama, I love reading your blog and I can’t wait to see the new little guy. XX

I had the best birthday..day at the spa, Ween show, variety of cupcakes, New Smyrna Beach (I live in FL)…awesome weekend! Can’t wait for the baby to arrive! : )
Hey, good luck tomorrow!
My plans today are so boring I won’t even bother.
Super Bowl Plans? For the last five or six years we’ve had my husband’s parents over and we eat the same meal and watch the big game and commercials. However we had the virus of death in our house this week, which I am just getting over so plans for Super Bowl ’08 have been effectively canceled. Which is fine because we are needing to clean out the “guest room” which tomorrow will be painted so it can become our daughter’s room for when Number Two arrives in May. I don’t work outside the home but spent the better part of the last four days in bed/on the couch and am suddenly feeling very behind. I’m thrilled not to be cooking for a group tonight and will probably lobby for pizza delivery instead.
I will be thinking of you all day tomorrow and anxiously awaiting news. I would most appreciate hearing how much easier it was to go through your second c-section (as I will be) and how surprised you were at what a breeze the whole thing was, k?
Hi Linda,
I just wanted to wish you and your family the very best for tomorrow.
I hope you have a painfree (can you have a painfree c-section!?!) birth and hope little D comes home with you soon!
Enjoy your last day as an only child Riley – there’s a whole new person wanting a big brother coming tomorrow!
Karen
Good luck tomorrow! We’re going to friends’ house to watch the game…lots of snacks to be consumed…and beer!!! Go Pats!
I’m not much into football either and don’t care a bit about who wins, but agree it is all about relaxing and eating great junk food. We have a couple of friends coming over to see the game and House. And for trying to get the image of a belly pelt outta my head.
Good luck tomorrow! Can’t wait to hear all about Smalltopus.
I haven’t quite found a super bowl party I actually want to go to yet. I’m thinking I’ll just head over to my brothers house and get hammered and laugh at the commercials. I’ve never been into football much. It’s not violent enough to keep my interest.
The big news this weekend is that I headed over to my computer guy friends house to get some stolen software for my new computer, and my other buddy was there clearing all his old shit out of the shed. So they are organizing it into one pile for keeping, and another for yard sale stuff. So of course I start rummaging through his crap to see if I like anything. Well, I drive a scooter, so by the time I left I putted down the road Santa style with a trash bag full of old grilling tools, porn and a foot shaped pillow slung over my shoulder. I had a sword in one hand and a realistic pellet pistol tucked in my belt. I looked like a modern day scooter pirate. It was awesome. I wish I had a picture to share, but alas, none was taken.
I’m sending you mega vibrations of good luck. I hope everything goes well, from the belly shaving to the moment when they hook old Xerxes and pull him aboard, or however doctors do C sections. I’m assuming it’s sort of like fishing.
Josh’s comment was actually kind of… sweet. You’re not getting soft on us, are you Josh? I mean, only one mention of porn, and a single expletive?
Happy Birthin’ I’m sick so it’s home for me. I plan on sleeping most of the day.
Is the baby going to be named Dax?
Linda, I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow, the second one is easier than the first c section, less drama, and you know what to expect. Just make JB stay up by your head so he can give you a play by play, and HEY PRESTO! A new baby boy! I can’t wait for pictures and the story, keep us updated as soon as you feel up to it, and know we all love you but not in a creepy internet stalker kinda way, and we all are rooting for you and little Duncan, Daniel, Dylan, David, Dax, or whoever!
Good luck tomorrow! Have fun attempting to sleep tonight, the one night you need it most… Can’t wait to see photos and hear all about Boy 2’s birth.
Hope you made it through the weekend OK! Best wishes to you tomorrow. We will be thinking of you here in Chicago!
Ditto for me, just thinking of you and all the best wishes for tomorrow. Can’t wait to see the little tyke.
Can’t wait to hear tomorrow’s good news. JB will be updating us immediately following the birth, right? RIGHT?
Best of luck!
OMG you’re totally having a baby tomorrow. OMG!
I’m so excited. I can’t wait to meet little Demetrius/Dante/Dooley/Dermott/Dingleberry/whatever his name is (read: none of the above, but BOY AM I EXCITED)
I’ll be thinking of you!
I haven’t been this excited for the virtual arrival of an internet baby since well, Riley! I’ll be sending good thoughts your way tomorrow. Here’s wishing you a pain-free, puke-free, easy-to-recover-from delivery tomorrow!
Well wishes, Linda and fam!
Entering comments post-superbowl and after next post published so I guess hardly anyone will read this.
Anyhow, I had a very sporty weekend (in front of the TV, of course). It was the start of the 6-Nations Rugby so I watched Ireland 16 Italy 11 (Yay, IRELAND) and most of England 19 Wales 26 on Saturday and Scotland 6 France 27 on Sunday. Caught some of African Nations’ Cup Quarter-Finals (soccer) on Sunday evening – then watched Superbowl, which here in Europe means staying up until after 3.00 a.m. (especially with the close finish). Now I’m in work, so hope I can survive until the end of the day!!
Can’t help thinking of you as you’re due to start ‘the big day’ in a few hours. All the best – I hope everything goes well.
Congrats!!!!
He’s so gorgeous, well done mama xx
