When I went to BlogHer last July, I spent a long bus ride jabbering in Kristin’s ear about my half-formed ideas involving a fitness website created for actual human beings. Instead of being designed to feed into insecurities or sell magazine subscriptions, it would be a place for people to share their stories and encourage each other. Instead of blathering endlessly about how to Get Bikini-Ready In Six Weeks!, it would offer individually written accounts of successes, struggles, how-to tips, workout reviews, recipes, and more.
The best thing about this website, I thought, is that the stories would be personal and real, and it would feel less like a marketing-driven LOSE WEIGHT NOW! self-esteem-suckfest, and more like a conversation among friends. It would be a motivating place to visit. Ideally, it would be enjoyable to read even if you didn’t give a shit about fitness.
Well, it’s taken a long time and there’s more work yet to do, but I am thrilled to show you Bodies in Motivation. Some amazing people have already contributed to this, and I am kind of insanely proud to share their stories with you.
I’ll be updating Bodies in Motivation as often as I can, publishing articles from folks and writing my own posts. I really hope you like it.
(Thanks to Kristin for encouraging me to go forward with this, and my friend Jon Bell for all the awesome web design work.)
Very, Very nice! I love the set-up and design. It looks friendly and inviting. This is a good time to start it, too, cause ads are always pushing fitness after New Years’.
Yay for you!
A big ol’ whopping congratulations. How awesome that you executed your brain child. I can’t wait to read it!
The site looks awesome! What a fantastic way to bring people together. Love it, great work!
I love your new site! I will visit it often… even though I’m not much of a health buff. It seems much different from other health sites. Much more fun and relaxed. Great work!
Way to go, Sundry! We can practically see the pride beaming off your words. I don’t know where you get your energy from, cuz…lady, you are a ball of ideas and opinions just looking for an outlet. Wish I had half of the energy you have. Must feel great. I’ll be checking out the website because I’m sick and tired of the slow atrophe and spread my 30-yr-old body is going through. I hate it! I crave movement! And with an 11-mo-old, frigid weather, working evenings, and no gym membership…lord knows I need ideas and motivation to help me keep things taut.
It looks great! And I checked out your advertiser’s site (the one with the cool sports bras). If only they’d make one with some lining in the bra so that you couldn’t hang a coat off my nipples when the gym is cold. Perhaps you could have a feature of very functional exercise wear?
Congratulations! I’m off to have a look.
When are you getting an email feed on Bodies in Motivation?
Bodies in motion totally rocks! I’m a long time reader, first time commenter delurking to tell you how absolutely kick ass that idea/execution is! Love it. I even gave it a little shout out on my own blog today. Great work!!
This was a fantastic idea! And the site looks amazing, very well put together. You continue to inspire.
Yes! I love learning history and the truth! So much more to learn. I like the idea of handing out dvds to educate sheeple. Nice one! As soon as I learn how to work this computer completely and efficiently I leaarn that as well. For now bombing sheeple with spam is my forte!
I am surprised to read this. As far as I knew, Parker did originate the 100 point scale for wine. Who then was the first?

I stayed at a hoetsl in San Francisco for two weeks and made delicious chicken marinara sandwiches pretty much every day. They’re very easy to make it you pick up some basics at the supermarket: wheat bread, a whole pre-cooked roasted chicken, Newman’s Own Spicy Red Pepper tomato sauce (this is key), mozarella, and then I add some crushed red pepper. Serve it with a salad or greens, and you’re good to go.
That hits the target dead center! Great answer!
