We still don’t have Comcast back online at home, so we are deNIED on the internet/phone/TV front. Not that I’m complaining! Well, actually, I am. But I’m complaining in a grateful-to-have-electricity kind of way.
JB went out and bought an antennae so we could see the Survivor finale last Sunday, because dude, we had spent too many weeks watching that stupid show to miss out on the last episode. Which, by the way, if you watch it live instead of recording it in order to skip the commercials later, is three solid hours of reality television. My butt actually hurt from being parked on the couch for so long, which is…just sad, really.
I was rooting for Ozzie, because clearly he is some kind of monkey/fish/human hybrid who deserved to win just because he kicked so much ass during the challenges. He also looked like he needed money more than Yul, who could easily make a million dollars hawking Bowflex. (“Hi, I’m Yul from Survivor. This incredibly chiseled torso can be yours in just minutes a day!”)
Hey, was it just me, or was this season RIFE with unintentional hilarity? A couple of shows back, the commentary during one of the challenges went like this: “Ozzie, raising his pole! Yul, making his pole bigger! Whose pole will be stronger? Whose pole will rub against another pole and grow several sizes in a hot display of forbidden pole-on-pole love?”
I may have made up the last sentence but I swear the rest of it was actual dialogue. There also some “so-and-so’s flag is rising!” talk from another challenge which cracked me up, because I am twelve years old.
(Let us not mention who actually won, or who was in the final tribal council, or what commercials played during the show, for the DVR has ruined, I say RUINED, my ability to BS water-cooler-style with you guys. Ffft.)
Am I still talking about Survivor? I am. Lame. Here’s what I meant to say: in case I don’t get online again before the holiday, I hope you have a wonderful, merry, festive time, whatever you’re celebrating, and if you’re not celebrating anything, then happy weekend to you.
JB and I and Riley and Dog are driving to Eugene on Saturday, where we’re staying with JB’s brother. He’s on call (he’s a funeral director, and I guess people just keep on dying, don’t they) over the holidays, so we’ll all be at his house to maximize the possibility of spending time together. After that, we’re heading to Coos Bay for at least part of the week.

My parents are visiting my brother in Spain, so my husband and I have NO family obligations.
Dreams do come true.
We’ve only had one Christmas before that was just us two. In 2004, we were at anchor in a lovely bay in Mexico, which is hard to beat.
But we are pretty psyched to have a full kitchen, a DVD player and a sofa this time around.
We re just hoping the power is going to come back on before Christmas. Going on 7 days now, it is getting old. My mom gets in Saturday, she says she can make Christmas dinner on the grill if she needs to. A couple of friends are coming up for the day too, We have Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit planned. It’s nice to have something to look foward to.
My husband and I are headed to Estes Park, CO! YEA! We will have white Christmas. My in-laws already have 2-1/2 feet of snow.

Well, I’ll be spending the holidays trying not to avoid candies and sweets and desserts… Damn it! I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes two days ago. What horrible timing! Originally, I thought I would just schedule the appt with the dietician and nurse next week so that I could play blissfully ignorant but this little voice in my head won’t SHUT THE HELL UP and let me do what I want. And the nurse from the hospital called and rescheduled me for this afternoon as they didn’t want me waiting that long, so I won’t be ignorant. Sigh.
Other than that, we will be doing normal Christmas-y stuff with family here in town. I miss Seattle so much but I do not miss the drive down to Oregon for Christmas. So, we’re going to be mostly lazy, eating, opening presents, and doing a few activities, etc. New Years will be out at the family cabin with a couple friends.

Just took my daughter for her first trip to see the Christmas Show at Radio City – she slept through half of it but it was so great to see her excitement in the beginning. Driving out to the in-laws in NJ then seeing my family and then back to the in-laws again. I have to say – Radio City really makes it feel like Christmas!

I will be hosting the Breck Family Circus at our home on Sunday evening, and then will follow the circus over to my sister-in-law’s place for another big top event on Monday. We are even supposed to try and get everyone outside in the snow to do something but it is more likely that we will all just sit around saying “when are we leaving?” and “what is going on?” until it is too late to go anywhere and we are only left with the option of eating leftovers and bitching about how we never get to DO anything. I love my family. Have a Merry Christmas.
I’m hoping my sinus infection (that I can take nothing for — darn class C drugs and being pregnant) goes away so I can enjoy the holidays and a week off without the world being in a fog. We head to the Portland area as of tomorrow through Tuesday and then I get the rest of the week to do nothing at all!! while the husband returns to work… Enjoy your trip, your holidays, and your family!!
We’re leaving at 9:30 p.m. Friday for a 4 hour drive because my teenage son couldn’t get the night off, so we have to wait for him to finish pushing carts and cleaning bathrooms at the local home improvement store. We’ll spend the weekend with my family, spend an afternoon with the MIL, and head home again on Monday. Husband getting laid off = no kennel for the dog (too expensive), so he (the dog) will have the happiest Christmas ever.
Tomorrow, on the eve of our 12th anniversary, I’m marrying my boyfriend in the house that we are buying. We are then going to Santa Barbara on a 2 day honeymoon, then driving back to LA to have lunch with my mom, then to Palm Springs to have dinner with his. On Tuesday we get back home and pack to move into our new home!! YAY! I have so much to do, but I’m sitting here reading your blog. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

Telegirl – I feel your pain sister!!! I just got lab results and my cholesterol took a huge JUMP since the test a year ago. How did my cholesterol go up to 253? A year ago it was only 196. I am one of “those people” who can control cholesterol with diet, so that means no more cream sauce, whole-milk lattes, or doughnuts until that damn number goes back down. Why oh why didn’t the clinic wait until AFTER the holiday week to give me that lovely news so I could eat in blissful denial? (*sulk*) I guess I’ll be eating salad for Christmas dinner. At least it’s still OK to have a glass or two of red wine.
I’ll pile on CONGRATS to Sooboo and to Karla! And Megan cracked me up about going to “the compound” in WV. Stacee – I’m in Bellingham too and I want to come to your house to hang out, watch DVDs and read new books! How fun!

Running awaaaaaay…..we’re leaving Saturday for Winthrop in the North Cascades, to a little cabin (that is nicer than my house) on the river in the snow. The husband, the boy, the dog, the cat and me. Merry Christmas!
happy holidays! last night we went to my fiances work do two hours from here, this morning we hit my fav cafe (in that city) and the record store then headed home where i did laundry and cleaned (joy) and then went out to an album release for a friends band; tomorrow i get to join the masses of last minute shoppers and (try to) buy food, we have to talk to more wedding photographers and visit the fiances nana, and on sunday i’m cooking a ham and we’re having daiquiris/wii bowling/bad santa on christmas eve. on christmas day we’re having lunch with my gramma (my contribution: pasta salad and garlic bread) (pasta salad with THE HAM I SLAVED OVER) and then i get my son back from his father (who will no doubt be at least half an hour late) and we do the present thing here and then head to my mums for dinner with my brother, sister in law, and nephew. on boxing day i am going to sleep all day on the couch while the small child watches the dvds that we bought him on behalf of the fiances mother.

We’re leaving the wilds of Texas for the even greater wilds of LA to hang with my family. Five days of all the cookies I can eat, plus zero humidity so my hair can look normal for once. Can’t wait! Happy holidays to you…
I’ve been enjoying your posts for awhile and just wanted to wish you and your family a very happy holiday season. Myself, I will be visiting in-laws and my parents and having some long over due visits with some friends. I also get to spoil the neices and nephew which is the best part of the holidays!
I bet your funeral director BIL has some stories to tell!!!! If he does make sure you share them with us!!!

Just now (finally) catching up on my online reading, sorry. Wanted to add a few suggestions for reading. “Broken for You” by Stephanie Kallos was very enjoyable. And am almost through with “Julie/Julia, My Year of Cooking Dangerously” by Julie Powell. It is pretty amusing. And while typing this, listening to “Barenaked for the Holidays.” Boy, am I on it or what?!
I am spending the holiday quietly, which is actually a nice change from the hectic trying-to-fit-in-every-family-member-and-friend Christmas that I usually have.
I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas/agnostic vacation/festivus!!!
